Ok, I measured my scarf in progress today and it's right at 36". I decided to give everyone a good chuckle and post some pics of my disaster in progress.
It's a funny thing about time zones. Your body doesn't know it's in another one, and goes on about it's normal cycles as if you're still at home. I live in the Eastern time zone, but as I work for a WI company I have to do my log and pretty much run my schedule on Central time. Over time my body has adjusted to that and pretty much runs on Central time now. But I'm in the Pacific time zone now. Although I slept late, 8:00 am Central/9:00 am Eastern, the sun has yet to come up here and the ...
I'm sitting in North Bend, WA. I heard on the CB that there was a tavern just down the road from the truckstop. Only a half a mile. Cool. I decided to walk down and check it out so I grabbed my cane and headed that way. It turned out to be more like two miles down the road. I had a decent time even though I can't abide stupid laws that make one stand outside the bar to smoke. Damned stupid. Me, being me, struck up conversations with several of the patrons as well as the bar staff. Overall ...
Things went far too well for a Monday. I made it to the first stop no problem, got unloaded right away and the guy even helped me fold my tarp, and then went to the port. Normally one expects to be sitting in a long line just to get into the port, and then wait a while for your turn to be unloaded. When I pulled in there was no line. I thought at first that I was in the wrong place. Nope, just no line. I was processed right in, the guys were all friendly, and was unloaded immediately. ...
I had some mechanical problems with my truck yesterday that cost me a few hours down time repairing it. I then ran into some snow across MT. One snowstorm was quite intense. It created white-out conditions which slowed traffic to a crawl. Funny thing though, it was only about 3 miles wide. By the time I had reached the Western end of MT there was a lot of snow falling between there and Spokane. They had closed the interstate to trucks due to some nasty accidents. I had to spend the night t...
I'm parked at a truckstop in a small jerkwater town in MT. It's right on the Northern edge of the Crow reservation. It seemed like a decent enough place to spend the night. It's small but has food and even a small casino/bar. Cool. The bartender on duty when I went in was quite nice. She was prompt and chatted with me a bit. After a while it was time for the shift change. I tipped her well, we chatted a few more minutes, and she left. Then I had to deal with the new bartender. To put it...
I got a good night's sleep last night. No lot lizards banging on the door, no noisy traffic moving through the truckstop, just peace and quiet. I managed to get several more inches done on the scarf last night while watching a couple of movies. It's aboutt 3 feet long now. I didn't measure it, but it looks about that long now. I woke around 5:00 am, checked the time, said screw that, and went back to sleep for another hour. At that point I decided to get up and get some coffee. As I wa...
I'm parked for the night in Murdo, SD. It's not exactly the middle of nowhere, but you can see it from here. It's a small Western community/tourist trap that appears to survive primarily on whatever money flows in from the interstate. The truckstop is small with a dirt lot and a diner. Good enough for a peaceful night's rest I think. I was planning to go a little further yet today but the sun had sunk to that low point in the sky where it was shining straight into my eyes as I drove straig...
I called it an early night last night after having a bit of a problem with one of the locals in the hotel's lounge. I wanted to relax not be involved in stupidity and drama. Some people can screw up a wet dream. I had a good night's sleep but awoke much earlier than I really wanted. I'm having some complimentary coffee and just kind of slowly working up to braving the cold wind out there. My truck is parked at the far end of the lot and it's going to be a chilly walk. I'm not even going to...
I've started my trip Westward. I fueled the truck this morning. That was a frigid experience. The temp dropped to 2 degrees last night. Brrrrrrrrrrr. I'm sure glad my heat was up to the task. I recall rousing once during the night and feeling a bit chilly. I turned up the heat a little and went back to sleep. I'm stopped in Portage, WI for my breakfast before continuing West. As I haven't been out to Seattle in a long time I'm kind of looking forward to the scenery along the way. I'm just ...
I had a reasonably good time tonight. I hobbled down the hill to the local boozer for a drink or three. As I expected, the boss was there along with a few other people I have come to know. Pete was suffering from a pulled shoulder muscle he acquired while plowing the snow out of his drive this weekend. I administered the appropriate amount of sympathy combined with derision one would naturally provide one's boss. He gave me the finger as he bought me a beer. As I imbibed in a few adult bev...
Whew. It pretty much took me all day to get this load loaded on the trailer and secured. It's a bunch of assorted stuff associated with snow removal equipment. A large snow broom, a big power unit, some replacement brushes, a spare tire, and some odd looking parts who's purpose escapes me. Oh yeah, and two monster big gears going to a second stop. It's a tad over 30 hours driving time to Seattle from here. It wold be nice to have this stuff delivered Friday and be reloaded and heading bac...
Geez. It was right out of an old comedy bit. I was coming out of the bathroom as a server was taking drinks to a table. We didn't physically collide, but it was close. She dropped one of the drinks on the floor making a big mess. I apologized and she apologized for getting in my way. No, you're doing your job, my fault No, I should have been more careful No, it's not your fault Manager shows up Me: not her fault Her: my fault Me: no it wasn't (in my forceful voice)

Sitting here in Appleby's enjoying a few adult beverages I am watching the human story playing out in this little microcosm. One thing that s constant no matter where one travels is that physical beauty and real beauty are two very different things. There are two young ladies working here that are physically beautiful. They are, in their own ways, quite beautiful to gaze upon. But the real story comes out in listening to what they have to say. One of them makes a lot of negative comments ...
I was laying in my bunk waiting for them to load my trailer and fell asleep. I was awakened by the cell phone ringing. It was "R". He wanted to know if I would prefer to run the GA load I was waiting for or wait until tomorrow morning and load for Seattle. He ran down the numbers for me and the Seattle load pays roughly 5 times what the GA load does. It was a no brainer, I told him that I would do the Seattle load if he would spring for a hotel room for tonight. He said seeing as I had gon...
