I just got home from the dreaded trip to Wally World. Man I really hate that place! But it is the cheapest place to get groceries and stuff and as I need to conserve funds, off I went. As usual the place was crowded. It doesn't matter when you go to this bastion of cheap crap, it's always crowded. Rude people blocking the aisles while they stare mindlessly at the items on the shelf, scratch their ass, or chat with someone (sometimes all three at once), me trying to get my crap and get out as ...

I went to bed pretty early last night. I think it was around 8:30 give or take a little. When I woke this morning the light from the skylight in the ceiling told me that the sun was up so I knew it wasn't too terribly early. That meant that I had probably slept for 10 or 11 hours. I needed it. I threw back my electric blanket, stumbled out of bed, was greeted by chilly air and a very stiff back, stretched as best I could, and went about starting my morning. The glow from the skylights was ...

Wow, I had no idea how tired I was until I got home and parked my ass on the couch. I guess four weeks on the road kind of builds up. I felt pretty good when I got home but after relaxing for a bit the tired just kind of washed over me and seeped in right down to the bones. It's only a quarter past 6 but it feels like it's well past midnight and I should have been in bed sleeping for a while now. I refuse to turn in this early as I know I'll just be awake before the sun comes up and that's...

I aired up the tires on the bent to ride down to the corner c-store to stock up on brews for the day/evening. It's obligatory when I'm home ya know. As it's a bit chilly out I threw on one of my Baja jackets and took off. The guy working the register is from some place in the Middle East (he's never actually said what country, he just says the Middle East and I don't press him on it as it's none of my business).. He's a pretty nice guy and has lived in this country long enough that his Eng...

I finally made it home again, and I'm starving. Since it's raining I don't want to ride to the grocery to pick up supplies and since I've been gone for a few weeks the cupboards are bare. What to do? What to do? Papa John's! It feels good to be home again. I can finally relax. I walked in, moved the bent out to the carport, turned on the water and power, and am now flushing out the pipes. I always run the water for about an hour to ensure the pipes are flushed out well when I return ...

I bought some knitting needles in a Hobby Lobby the other day. They were having a 50% off sale so I figured what the hell. I bought a Boye circular needle in size 10. I figured I would use it to knit a hat or something. Everyone loves the circs so I wanted to see what all the fuss is about. Now, they had some other brands there but me not knowing the relative advantages and qualities of the various knitting needle brands I went with what I knew. My regular needles are all Boye so that's wh...

I am sitting here enjoying my morning coffee and waiting for my breakfast of ibuprofen to kick in before hitting the road. I managed to knit about 4 more inches onto the scarf last night. I measured it before I went to bed and it's now 44" long. I am figuring I'll have it finished some time on Tuesday and then I am going to try to tackle knitting some socks. I had forgotten that today was Super Bowl Sunday. I hope I am able to find a parking spot when I get down to FL as a lot of guys will...

After a couple of days of hard, flat-out running I am finally at a point where I can slow down a bit and take a break. After two days in a row of getting up at 5:00am (which I dearly hate) I can go to sleep tonight without setting my alarm and just wake in the morning when my body is ready. On the way down I-95 I stopped at the NC/SC line and visited South Of The Border. Yeah, it's a miserable tourist trap and all that, and it's truck stop, Porky's, is a real dive, but I wanted to do a qui...

Made Cincinnati deliveries this morning, got stuck in the snow and slid into a ditch. One wrecker and $250 later I was rolling again. One of those days. On my way to Southeastern VA for delivery tomorrow and then on to Tampa to deliver Monday. I spoke with the guy in VA. Even though the paperwork says "must deliver before noon" he said it really didn't matter to him and to just call when I'm about an hour out and he'll meet me. That takes a little of the pressure off, but I still have to k...

My generator has been in the shop twice in as many days. It refuses to keep running and shuts itself down without warning. Yesterday I was assured that it was fixed this time. Uh huh. Last night the damn thing shut down around midnight. Luckily I wasn't sleeping as soundly as I could have been and the chill woke me. I cursed, fired up the truck, grabbed my extra warm comforter, and went back to sleep. I'm really losing patience with our mechanics at this point. While I am home next wee...

The shop tells me that they finally have my generator repaired. I'll believe it if it stays running all night tonight and I don't wake up frozen to death (which I'm pretty sure would be a bad thing). I'm on a load that takes me home, via the scenic route. It's a very tight schedule and will keep me quite busy over the next couple of days. I have 2 stops tomorrow in Cincinnati, a stop in Franklin, VA for Saturday before noon, and a final stop in Tampa at 8:00 am Monday. This is a bit tight a...

The mechanic came into the break room while I was having a discussion with the Office Manager about some network problems she was having, mostly related to very slow response and some new software problems. I made a few suggestions to her regarding the problems and she happily went off to try them out. The mechanic said that he had replaced my windshield and "thought" the generator would be ok now. After frilling him a bit he admitted that he hadn't actually found any problem with the gene...
