I was sitting here knitting, drinking a beer, and watching the idiot box when someone knocked on my door. WTF? It's a rare thing for someone to knock on my door. As I was in the middle of a round on my knitting I didn't want to lay it down and maybe stretch the stitches or have one slip off the needles so I carried it to the door with me. Being as the door is only like three feet away I didn't even need to pick up the skein. When I opened the door I was met with a wonderous sight. It was a...

I found this article quite interesting. If the strange red object are indeed some form of alien life or spores, they are unlike what we accept as living cells here on Earth as they lack DNA or a nucleus. I'll be interested to read further test results on this. Link

This has to be the best article I've read on the whole astronaut love triangle story. Link

The keystone discoveries of Mankind were fire, the wheel, the lever, aerodynamics, chemistry, and electricity. Pretty much all of our technology is based upon these basic discoveries. As a species we made huge leaps through these discoveries. They are the essential concepts of the universe as we understand it and all of our technology is based upon them. But is this all there is? Really? We haven't made a single keystone discovery regarding the basic nature of the universe in a long time. ...

With the release of Vista it's obvious that Microsoft still has no clue about security. This should make you feel all warm and fuzzy. Not. Link

I think I have this knitting in the round thing figured out. Slowly but surely the top of the sock is starting to take shape.

My thanks to Baker for setting me onto this topic. His comment on one of my threads inspired this one. Baker: "I know men that I grew up around that right now if their wives left or died would literally not know how to cook their own supper, sew on a button, or even wash their clothes in their own washer and dryer. To me, THAT is a lot more, well, candy assed. There's always been something effeminate about a grown man-child that needs his wife to be his momma, too, lol." These days mos...

I just got back from making my house payment for the month. Ah well, one needs a place to keep his stuff. I also got online and ordered those Knit Picks Options knitting needles as well as the nice knitting bag I'd had my eye on. I had described the bag to Mom and she had expressed that she also would like to have one. Since someone had provided me with a promotional code to get $25 off the price of the bag I went ahead and ordered a second one for Mom. Here's the stuff I ordered , whi...

I am the first to admit that sometimes I can take things the wrong way, especially over the net where words are all there is. But I don't think I am in the wrong in this little dispute on a popular Linux forum. But, I am open to the possibility that I was wrong. Tell me what you think. This was the original post, titled "Micro sof.. err crap" by someone: ok one question, know how ignerent microsoft is, why is it that every operating system they come out with, they always say, better! s...

Today I decided to try a sock on double point needles (dpns). I've finally gotten to the point that I feel pretty comfortable knitting with two straight needles, but trying to knit with four dpns is quite awkward and challenging. After several frogged attempts I finally got a few round knitted. I am not 100% sure if I am doing it right, but once it gets a little more length it should be pretty obvious. It'll either look like the ribbed top of a sock, or a total mess. As this is my first...

I love this weather! I just got back from a nice walk in the sunshine. It's wonderfully warm outside. I donned a pair of shorts and one of my many Hawaiian shirts, a pair of sandals, and just let the sunshine warm my bones as I casually strolled down the road. After weeks of freezing temperatures, ice, and snow it was truly wonderful to feel the warm air and sun. I walked down to Mom's to give her a quick knitting lesson and to pick up my mail. I also mailed out my paperwork to the office ...
