I'm watching a local news story about a 15 year old girl in St Pete who has had a bad case of the hiccups for over 3 weeks. They're showing her and it's not just a hiccup every once in a while but constant, non-stop, one right after the other hiccups. The doctors are at a loss for treatment. They've tried different drugs and so far they've come up with nothing to stop them. As much as I hate having the hiccups every once in a while, I can imagine just how miserable this poor girl must be t...

I spent a little time going through the new Knit Picks Options needles again today. I noticed that the size 10 and size 10.5 looked identical to me. I broke out my needle gauge and measured them. Both pairs were 10.5. It seems they had made a mistake when assembling the kit and had given me two pairs of size 10.5 and no size 10 at all. I called Knit Picks' customer service line and explained the mistake to the lady on the other end of the line. Her reply? "Oh goody. They do get creative ba...

I was beginning to wonder if the two knitting bags I ordered (one for me, one for Mom) would ever get here. I had placed the order on Friday and paid for 1 day express shipping. Monday I found that I had made a typo on the zip code which resulted in my credit card being rejected. I called and corrected the mistake. Finally, on Tuesday the bags were shipped and scheduled to arrive on Wednesday. Mother Nature stepped in and the ordered was held up at the airport in Philly due to bad weather...

I rode the bent to the grocery store a little while ago to pick up something to prepare for my dinner. While wandering around the store still trying to decide what I wanted to cook I noticed a young lady with a toddler sitting in the shopping cart. She was wearing a traditional head scarf which completely hid her hair and, judging by her skin color and facial features, she was obviously of Middle Eastern decent. I assumed by her dress and scarf that she was a Muslim. This isn't really an u...

I just finished knitting my first sock. I'm pretty proud of myself. I'm going to try and go get my good camera out of the truck later today and get a better pic.

I got a call from dispatch today. She said she had a load for me to pick up tomorrow if I wanted it. Cool, tell me about it. It was two trucks to be picked up at an auction place. Strike one. Auction places are notorious for being a pain in the ass. I would have to drive them on myself. Well, I assumed as much as it's an auction house, but we'll call it strike two anyway. I would have to dismantle the stack on one of the trucks to meet the height limit. Big strike three there. I...

I really like these needles. They're very slick metal and the yarn glides over them effortlessly. It'll take me a little time to get used to them and I'll have to be careful about not dropping any stitches, but otherwise they're fantastic. The organizer case is quite nice as well. Well worth the money. I can hardly wait to knit a project with these. I think the next pair of socks I do will be on these needles.

Let's face it; Capitalism is a bust. The economies of the capitalist countries are rapidly failing, greed and corruption are rampant, and the standard of living in these countries is among the lowest in the world. The wealthy capitalists are getter wealthier while the uneducated working class are starving in the streets and unable to buy even the least expensive iPods on the market. We should be looking to the Socialist countries as models for success. Their economies are booming, their st...

I had to call a retailer this morning regarding an online order that obviously hadn't processed according to the balance on my credit card. The first person I spoke with was very nice and we discovered the problem and she said she had corrected in and that the order would process within 45 minutes. A couple of hours later the order still hadn't processed so I called back. After another long wait on hold listening to stupid canned music and annoying ads, another CSR finally came on the lin...

Friday I placed orders through two different retailers. The first one, Knit Picks, from whom I ordered a set of circular needles, has already shipped and should arrive tomorrow. The second, Jo Ann's, hadn't yet posted to my credit card so I expected that there was a problem. I just got off the phone with their customer service center. She had said that the credit card transaction had failed due to an address problem. We went through it and found the problem. I had transposed two digits in ...

I spent a fair amount of time knitting on my first sock today and really made some progress on it. I was a bit concerned about turning the heel. Even after reading the instructions several times I just couldn't understand how it was going to create a 90 degree turn in the sock to make the heel. But I followed the instructions to the letter and like magic there was a 90 degree bend and an actual heel in the sock. Amazing. Having done it now I understand how it works, kind of, but it really ...

Having been born in Louisiana in 1961 I was too young to now clearly remember the desegregation battle that was fought in the South during the middle 20th century. Naturally I was taught about this in school, but there is a difference between learning some historical facts and actually being witness to such happenings. I am watching a program on the local PBS channel that I haven't seen before. I think that it is titled "Eye On The Prize". It's a very detailed account of the various battle...

As usual I got bored with my desktop and changed it around a little. I think it looks pretty nice.
