A bunch of useless crap
Published on February 6, 2007 By MasonM In Blogging
I just got home from the dreaded trip to Wally World. Man I really hate that place! But it is the cheapest place to get groceries and stuff and as I need to conserve funds, off I went. As usual the place was crowded. It doesn't matter when you go to this bastion of cheap crap, it's always crowded. Rude people blocking the aisles while they stare mindlessly at the items on the shelf, scratch their ass, or chat with someone (sometimes all three at once), me trying to get my crap and get out as quickly as possible, and dirty little unsupervised heathens running riot through the store. I hate this place!

I bought enough groceries to last me through my week at home, as well as some shampoo and Advil. Oh yeah, and a sweater they had marked down to 11 bucks. I went as cheap as I could on the groceries while still getting stuff that's actually edible. I was hoping to have enough left over to order the Knit Picks Options circular knitting needle kit I've had my eye on.

No such luck. I do have enough cash left to order them, but that would leave me without beer money for the rest of the week and that's simply unacceptable. I get paid again on Friday, but as I am leaving out again on Monday I am undecided about whether I will order them then or not. I could have them shipped to my office in WI, so I guess I'll wait and see on Friday. As much as I'd like to have that set of needles, I'm not going to run myself broke buying them. If my pay this week is as good as I expect I'll order them, otherwise I'll do the mature thing and just wait until another time and pout about it until then.

I'm now back at home, cheap groceries put away. Well, ok, the refrigerated stuff is put away, the rest is waiting patiently in it's little plastic bags. After the trip of doom and gloom I needed a beer. The rest will get put away...sometime.

It's warmed up nicely and is a great contrast to yesterday. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and if I had an ounce of energy I'd be outside riding my bike and enjoying the great weather. Instead I'm going to sit my fat ass right here on the couch drinking beer and trying to decide what I'm going to prepare for dinner. I might actually get around to actually preparing dinner.

Nah, if I can't afford it right now it'll do me good to wait. Ya know, builds character and all that BS.

How the hell did he do that? Oh, lemme guess, porn sites. Gotta love Windows.

Well, it's not like it's in the 80s or anything. I'm pretty sure it never got above 65 or 70 today.

You saying you can't get porn on Linux? Well, then, you can forget about it EVER being marketable...lol!

Nono, the porn just doesn't mess Linux up. Windows automatically uploads the porn to Bill Gates' computer, which is what makes it run so slow.

Glad you survived Wally World. I just found a new one that was not so bad to go to, it was giant, like a warehouse, so it had aisles that were actually wide enough. The only I usually go to does not. It made it tolerable, and it had cheap food.

Oh sure I get lots of porn on Linux, errr, I mean other people get lots of porn on Linux. Just not the malware that comes with it.

I don't think they could build a Wally World I would enjoy shopping at. Ours is pretty big but it is still cluttered with morons. Myself included.

Oh, I know, I just couldn't resist that one.

Incidentally, I have two used sticks of RAM (hopefully good, but untested), 5 copies of Ubuntu and a Saturday AM date with a possible Linux installation...porn without the malware is just one of the perks...lol!

Uhhh, not that I'm INTO that sort of thing!

Humor is the real spice of life.

While I am most definitely not an Ubuntu fan, it's not a bad introduction to Linux. It's as good a place to start as any. Good luck with it. Once you get bored with it give Slackware a try.

I kinda see Ubuntu as "Linux with training wheels". I'll probably play with Slackware after I've gotten comfortable in a Linux environment. I believe Linux will become increasingly relevant in the IT world, and, as I was saying to my instructor, the ones who really make money are those on the leading, not the trailing edge.

that's as good a way of putting it as any.

There's a saying in the Linux community: If you learn ~insert distro here~, you know how to use ~insert distro here~, but if you learn Slackware you know how to use Linux.

I'm not a fan of Wally World either. Like, why do they have 99 check out lanes but have only two of 'em open? I much prefer a little mom & pop family market that's closer to me. They're a little higher but I'd rather spend my $$$ with friends so it's worth it to me. Heh, it's a weakness I have...

I still habe no fracking clue what the hell the swift is for or how to use the damn thing!

Enjoy your trip.

Yeah that annoys the hell out me too.

Actually I agree with you on this, but where I live the "mom & pop" places don't exist. I have a choice between big chain A, big chain B, or Wally World.

Please enlighten me. I'm a South African and I see a Zulu word (ubuntu) being tossed around. Where did it come from/
