I got a good night's sleep last night. No lot lizards banging on the door, no noisy traffic moving through the truckstop, just peace and quiet.
I managed to get several more inches done on the scarf last night while watching a couple of movies. It's aboutt 3 feet long now. I didn't measure it, but it looks about that long now.
I woke around 5:00 am, checked the time, said screw that, and went back to sleep for another hour. At that point I decided to get up and get some coffee. As I walked into the truckstop I noticed the diner looked suspiciously dark. The sign said the diner opens at 7:00. Argh!
I took care of my morning restroom and wash up chores and returned to my truck. I did finally get a letter addressed and stamped that I had been meaning to do for several days now. I dropped it in the mail box as I walked back into the place at 6:58 am. I was standing there waiting impatiently for the lady to open the door. I wanted my coffee.
The waitress noticed me on my laptop and said "You must be one of those truck drivers I saw reported on tv last night".
Huh?
She said they had interviewed several drivers who have all of the latest digital gadgets and actually use them while driving down the road. This got my temperature up a little right off and I let her know exactly how dangerous and utterly stupid those guys are. She said one guy talked about how me "multi-tasks by driving, text messaging, talking on the phone, and using his laptop". I'd love to meet this idiot in a dark alley some place. Like we don't already have a bad enough reputation.
Next thing you know some well meaning idiots will be passing legislation outlawing laptops and cell phones in commercial vehicles thanks to morons like him. I really despise stupid people like him.
Ok, that ends the rant portion of our show.
It's pretty windy out there this morning, so that's going to affect my drive today. These high wind drag loads are a real drag.
Once I've finished my coffee I'm going to try and make some good time today. I want to cover about 600 miles today. Doable if one just keeps the left door shut and stays after it. I have plenty of time but want to get there early enough to have a day to rest up (not that I'm exactly working all that hard on this trip).
Oh wonderful, I just heard some people talking that the highway is a bit icy out there this morning. Yuck. Maybe I'll just hang out here a little longer and let the sun come up good. It's a little strange that it's 20 minutes to 8 and it's just starting to get light out there.
It's gonna be one of those days I think.
