I made my delivery on time this morning, picked up a military truck, and came back to the yard. I've had my wipers replaced, turned in my paperwork, and will be loading a military truck here at the yard heading for KY. I had told dispatch to not count on me getting much of anything done today as I was dead tired. They understood. The KY truck doesn't deliver until Wednesday, so I can pretty much just take it easy the rest of today once I get it chained down. Now I'm eating my lunch and wat...

I had to do some hard running today. I had a lot of miles to cover (about 12 hours worth) and needed to beat the next wave of ice that was coming across. I started early this morning, stopping only once to grab a quick bite of breakfast, and kept after it steady all day. It was a hard push but I stayed ahead of the ice and made it up into WI. I'm about 15 or 20 minutes from my delivery scheduled for 6:30 tomorrow morning. While stopped for breakfast I noticed that the truckstop had heated ...

What a day for driving. I ran North out of Dallas on US 75 and then US 69 into OK. This route is the most direct one to where I need to go, but it also ran right through the middle of the ice storm that is pounding the Midwest right now. Right into the belly of the beast as it were. It made for an interesting drive. My truck is now coated in several inches of ice. The roads were a mess, there were trees and tree limbs down all over the place, and power was out in more areas than not. I sto...

It just occurred to me that I haven't eaten since dinner yesterday. That's probably not healthy. I should probably eat something or other tomorrow. I have had some beers, which is basically liquid bread, but I'm not sure that counts as food. Maybe a breakfast is in order tomorrow. Ah well, I can stand to lose a few pounds.

I delivered in Houston this morning and then made my way across US 290 to Austin and then a little North on I-35 to Georgetown to pick up some military crane parts heading for Oshkosh, WI. It all went reasonably well but I did get rained on while strapping/chaining down the crane parts. No biggie, I'm used to getting rained on. I came a little way up the road to the North side of Temple, TX. There is a little truckstop here at exit 305 that has a small tin roof country bar on the corner of...

I'm spending the night in a small truckstop in a small TX town with the unlikely name of Dew. Dew, TX. Do tell. I've been kicked back knitting on the scarf and watching a movie as has become my normal evening routine. The scarf is now over 2 feet long and is one sorry looking piece of work. Really. My knitting has improved through the course of the thing, but looking at it on the whole it really does look pretty bad. If one just looks at the last several inches it looks pretty good if ...

I got rolling before dawn this morning to try and beat the OK CIty morning rush. A little East of OK CIty traffic became a bit snarled. The reason? An oil well exploded and was spraying oil all over the interstate. That's a first for me. Emergency crews were out there trying to cap the well and spreading sand on the highway. As traffic was still resonably light I made it through the mess fairly quickly but had to stop and clean the oil off my windshield. By the time I reached OK City traff...

It was a pretty good day today. Sunshine and reasonable traffic made today's driving pretty enjoyable. I heard over the CB that the truckstops in Oklahoma City were already pretty well filled up so I parked in a service plaza on the OK turnpike for tonight. I was really hoping to get through OK City tonight and park at one of the truckstops on the other side, but I shouldn't be surprised that they're filled up already. It seems like these days if you aren't in a parking space by 3:00PM you ca...

Last night I had enough beers to relax but not enough to actually get drunk. I slept well and this morning the pain in my hip and back has subsided a great deal. I'm still hurting but it's not nearly as intense as the past couple of days. Maybe I can get the doc to write me a prescription for beer, that way I can write it off my taxes. A restful night's sleep can work wonders. I've stopped in Sullivan, MO long enough for breakfast, and then I'm off again. Dispatch had made a slight error...

I've been looking for a knitting bag that didn't look like a woman's knitting bag. Most of them are pretty feminine looking. I finally found one that is exactly what I need. I am going to order this knitting bag as soon as I can afford to part with the extra 40 bucks.

Found on the net:Three Little Pigs went out to dinner one night. The waiter came and took their drink order. "I would like a Sprite," said the first little piggy. "I would like a Coke," said the second little piggy. "I want beer, lots and lots of beer," said the third little piggy. The drinks were brought out and the waiter took their orders for dinner. "I want a nice big steak," said the first piggy. "I would like the salad plate," said the second piggy. "I want beer, lots a...

I stopped a couple of hours short tonight. I planned to go on into MO before shutting down but the pain in my back and hip drove me into a truckstop just short of that goal. I've had enough for today. Across the street from the small truckstop is a Ruby Tuesday which is where I am now typing this as I have just finished my dinner and am enjoying a Samuel Adams or three. It's pretty quite at the moment. The dinner crowd has yet to arrive and I have a period of peace while listening to th...

I arrived at the Highland Park stop this morning to find their lot covered with patches of ice. That made it a bit tricky walking around and unstrapping the two pallets containing the two huge steel gears I was delivering to them, especially when I am already hurting and not able to walk very well. Once I had them unstrapped the guy on the forklift tried to take them off. He got the first one ok but his forklift got stuck on the ice while trying to remove the second one. Luckily I still ha...
