Or just plain stupid. Knitting is so frustrating! I'll never finish this stupid simple scarf! I worked on the thing for hours, trying to be careful and get everything right. It's just a simple friggin 2x2 ribbing pattern. Nothing complicated. After hours of working on it and having it start to actually take some shape and have a bit of length (well, ok, only about 8 inches or so), I totally screwed up a row. I tried to fix it and messed that up. I tried to unravel a couple of rows but c...
Simple enough question. Spending the evening with family? Enjoying a few drinks, beer, or champagne? Going to a party? Home alone? As for myself, I am home alone, having a few beers, surfing the net, watching the boob tube (well, it's on but not really paying much attention), and doing some knitting.
My mother was wanting some extra phone lines run in her place. The phone company charges $125/hour to do that kind of work so I went over after lunch and wired them for her. It only took about an hour and a half to get the wiring run and everything connected and working, but if the phone company had done it I'm sure it would have run her at least $250 which is absurd. Now she has her extra phones, is happy, and she saved some money in the process. Sadly my hip didn't really enjoy all th...
I'm watching some television show, one of the CSI ones I think. I'm only half paying attention to it but something jumped out that just annoyed the hell out of me. They were talking about how someone uses their laptop to scan for a WiFi signal to use and the person said it's called "war talking". Arrrrgh! It's War Driving, not war talking. I do it all the time. A quick google could have told these moronic writers that. Why can't these Hollywood asshats take 5 seconds to do a little researc...
A man with a badge and a gun says "Give me your wallet!" A Polk County (next county East of me) is up on charges for stealing a man's wallet and taking a few hundred dollars from it before tossing it into a field. According to news reports the deputy has confessed to the crime and even took fellow officers to the field where the wallet was recovered. I guess when the hippies were telling us that we can't trust The Man, they weren't kidding.
I just read this in an off topic religion related thread on a forum. The whole thread was pretty polite and there wasn't really much flaming or bashing going on, but some of the statements made (on both sides) were moronic at best. This person struck me as particularly humorous in the way he contradicted himself. He says: I just think people should be open-minded about everything Ok, I have no issue with this. But then he follows it up with: and I think religion kind of pre...
I normally try to discourage flame wars on my blog but Dharma is missing the flamefests here at JU, so come on and let em rip! Warning: all spelling and grammatical errors are fair game. Rules: 1. Any polite posts will be ridiculed and then deleted. 2. You don't like it? Piss off!
Someone just sent me a link to the pattern for this scarf. Now I have even more reason to improve my knitting skills. I have to make this one for sure!
A day or two early, but close enough. Four weeks growth.
I am a little puzzled. I've been knitting on this scarf. I cast on 14 stitches. I've been knitting along and noticed that the scarf has gotten wider. I started with 14 stitches and now I somehow have 22. How did I manage to do this? Geez, and I thought I was doing so much better. This stuff is harder than I thought, or I am dumber than I thought. Time to unravel and start over. Again. grrrrrr
I went to bed last night somewhere between 11:00 and 11:30. I was tired and still trying to catch up on my rest after a few weeks out on the road. I don't think I had been asleep very long when I was awakened by someone knocking on my door. WTF? I don't know anyone who would be visiting me at this time of night. The people who know me know that I enjoy my sleep when I'm off the road. I looked out the window next to my bed and saw two people standing at my door. It was dark, but they both ...
It's a nice day so I rode the bent to Wally World. While there I bought some super bulky yarn and some size 15 and 17 needles as well as some other odds and ends. Mom had mentioned that she would like a knitting starter kit so she can teach herself to knit. She's been doing crochet for years so she can probably pick it far easier than myself. So I bought her the same starter kit with instruction book that I had bought for myself as well as some larger needles (the kit only comes with 6 and 8)...
I really hate these people.
This past week I have tried very hard to not think about Socrates, but it's been impossible. Come on, he was just a cat. But to me he was more than that. He was my friend. He was my family. There were times when he drove me nuts. There were times when he pissed me off. But there were also times when he was loving. He was family. And he was too damn young. I miss the little guy more than you can know. And I shed tears.
I took a couple of psychology classes when I was in college. I learned two things from those classes. Firstly, that psychology is more or less mostly pure bullshit, and secondly that anyone who is clinically "normal" would be the most boring person on our little planet. It's our little quirks that make us individuals and what makes us interesting. Can you imagine what it would be like if everyone were exactly alike and all clinically normal? We'd all die of boredom. Besides, sex would be basi...
