I was online, chatting with some "friends" in Palace and ran out of beer. It was just a few minutes before 11 and the store closes at 11. I wanted to get more beer and so had to move. It's roughly 6 blocks to the store. I unchained my bent and took off. I was taking the corners in 18th and 19th gear, which equates to between 18 and 20 mph. I was laying the bent down low. It was actually loads of fun even though I nearly lost it in the one turn because there was a car coming and I had to co...

As I'm on my down time and not expecting any calls from work I've had my cell phone shut off to conserve the battery. I only have a cigarette lighter plug charger for it and oddly enough my house doesn't have any 12 volt power ports. This morning I get a call from Mom telling me that "A" from dispatch had called saying that he needed to speak with me right away and that is was an emergency. WTF? He asked her for my number but she wouldn't give it to him. I found that a bit odd as I know they ...

Found this posted on a Linux forum and thought it was pretty damned funny. I left it as one long paragraph as somehow it seems funnier that way. You may have it, too. It manifests itself like this: This afternoon I decided to water the lawn, but as I reached for the hose, I noticed the car needed washing, but as I headed for the garage to wash the car, I noticed the mail that I brought up from the mailbox yesterday was still unopened, so I laid my car keys on the table, started going th...

I've been trying the knitting thing today. Pretty much all afternoon and evening. It's not nearly as easy as I thought it would be. I followed the book, practiced making the stitches, and am trying the easiest starter project, a simple scarf. I've started, pulled apart, and restarted this stupid thing a couple of dozen times already. At the moment it's about as far as I have yet gotten with it, and for all of the hours I have been trying this it's all of about 1.5 inches long. At this rat...

This is interesting. Gabbly is a chat service that allows you to chat with anyone on the same website you are on. You simply put 'gabbly.com/' in front of the addy on the site you are on and a chat window appears that connects you with others on the site. Might be a way for JUers to chat with each other if they so choose. Pretty novel either way.

In the beginning God created the bicycle, saw that it was good, then went for a nice Sunday ride on the bike lanes He'd made the day before, and they were good, too, because they were new and He had the angels keep them clear of debris. Later, of course, God would get cross and have the flood wash them all away. And God said to Himself, Let us create man, because cycling is too much fun to keep to Myself, and so He created man, him did He create, create did He him do. And God put man in pa...

Wrecks everywhere today. The weather in Florida is terrible and the traffic reflected that fact. There was a wreck every few miles. As I passed through the Lake City area I had to dodge tin roofing and tree limbs in the highway. A tornado or very high straight line winds had destroyed some buildings near the interstate and had blown the debris into the roadway. It was interesting driving to say the least. But I did finally make it home in time to have Christmas dinner with Mom and Frank. ...

I see them all the time. Con artists. Folks who are looking to talk you out of your money. I can usually spot them before they even speak and always within two or three sentences after they speak. They came in tonight. I spotted them right off. Two young ladies came in together. Both quite nice looking. Neither carrying a purse. They sat down next to me and asked me a couple of innocent seeming questions about where they could find a more "happening" bar. I played along and told them I ...

By the time I had reached Atlanta it was very obvious that I wasn't going to make it home at a reasonable time tomorrow. Between the normal holiday traffic, the pain in my back and hip, and a few traffic accidents, I was far behind schedule at that point. I decided to stop by and see my old friend George Jones. No, not THAT George Jones. He's a retired trucker from the old school. When he retired he opened a bar/restaurant in Conley, GA which is just South of Atlanta. He's a good old guy. ...

As much as I wanted to get an early start towards home this morning I awoke to a heavy fog. Normally I would still have set out and just taken it slow, but with all of the holiday travelers on the roads I decided to play it safe and wait a while to see if the fog lifted. The fog is starting to burn off now and sunshine is replacing it so I'll be able to head out in a few more minutes. As much as I want to get home as soon as possible, I now how hazardous the roads are with all of the tr...

As usual my back and hip were hurting when I got out of bed this morning. That's normal and I'm used to it. Usually by the time I have walked into the truckstop, had my coffee, and walked back to the truck it has eased up enough for me to go about my business. Not today though. My back has been hurting more instead of less. Every bump in the road causes a shot of pain in my back and right leg. When I just couldn't stand it any longer I stopped to have some breakfast and move around a bit t...

I'm having my morning coffee and getting myself ready to do battle with the holiday idiots, I mean travelers. It's a cold and very windy morning. My generator shut itself down just as I was getting up this morning. That means it's either low on oil or coolant. I'll have to check it later today. At least it waited until I was getting up instead of shutting down at 3:00 am or something. I'm not looking forward to dealing with all the holiday weekend traffic, but I have to do it if I want ...
