As I'm on my down time and not expecting any calls from work I've had my cell phone shut off to conserve the battery. I only have a cigarette lighter plug charger for it and oddly enough my house doesn't have any 12 volt power ports. This morning I get a call from Mom telling me that "A" from dispatch had called saying that he needed to speak with me right away and that is was an emergency. WTF? He asked her for my number but she wouldn't give it to him. I found that a bit odd as I know they have my home number and have called me here before.
Anyway, I called him to see what was going on. He was all freaked out over the deliveries on the load I brought down. Normally I handle the delivery details myself but when I had left out for home I told him to call the customers and set things up for Friday. I should have just done it myself.
The first guy is all upset about the fact that his generator is loaded on the top deck and he didn't have access to a crane. The second one was all freaked out because "A" had waited until Tuesday to call him to say that he needed to have a crane on site Friday afternoon and it was too short a notice. I told "A" not to worry about it, that I would call them and get things straightened out.
I called the first guy (who isn't working on Friday) and discussed the situation with him. I asked what equipment he had at his disposal. It turned out he has a forklift large enough to lift his unit off the top deck with no problem. That solves his major freak out. I also got him to agree to come in on Friday if needed even though he would rather wait until Tuesday.
I then called the second guy.to find out how he was doing with the crane. He said the soonest he could get a crane on site was Tuesday. Ok, no problem. I told him to set up the crane for Tuesday afternoon. He was happy. I then called the first guy back and told him he wouldn't need to come in on Friday and I would just see him Tuesday. He was happy. I get to stay home a few extra days. I was happy. I called "A" and told him everything was set up for Tuesday and both customers are happy. He was happy.
A little common sense and communication can make everybody happy.
