A bunch of useless crap

This is interesting. Gabbly is a chat service that allows you to chat with anyone on the same website you are on. You simply put 'gabbly.com/' in front of the addy on the site you are on and a chat window appears that connects you with others on the site.

Might be a way for JUers to chat with each other if they so choose. Pretty novel either way.

Oh really? I've never heard of it. Thx for the hook up!

Interesting M, it worked! You weren't there though!!

It is pretty cool. I found that it's best to be in the forums when you activate it, otherwise as soon as you move to the forums it goes away and you have to enter it again.

Mason I went and did it got up a little window - spoke to myself trying to figure it out, saw what I said etc.....however - you cannot load threads - is this correct? I cannot seem to login to the forum once the chat is open so cannot open threads , login comment read nothing?

can you please type how it is done what should the address bar look like

gabbly.com/https://forums.joeuser.com or http://gabbly.com/forums.joeuser.com

or soemthing else entirely?

or does it just open in a separate window and you keep running the joeuser forum in another window to navigate forum?

sorry I know I can be thick sometimes.

Navigate to the forums and ensure you're logged in. Then just type gabbly.com/ in front of the address in the bar so that it looks like gabbly.com/https://forums.joeuser.com. The chat window will open. You can dock it or whatever.

Once it's opened you can navigate the various threads. As long as you remain in the forums the chat will remain open. If you leave the forums it will close.

That's odd Jen. It works perfectly for me. Are you putting the / after gabbly.com?
on Dec 26, 2006
yes, as soon as I type it in and search it logs me out of ju ---- when I close gabbly down it logs me back in --- whoa! strange??
on Dec 26, 2006
What do you mean "search it"? Are you typing this is the address bar of your browser?

Just put gabbly.com/ in the browser address bar in front of he address already there and hit enter. It should reload the web page and add the chat window.

Only thing I can think of is maybe a security/cookies/firewall setting is giving you problems. What browser are you using?
on Dec 26, 2006
I press the arrow key (reads go)next to the browser address bar

ie 6 and I have turned off block pop ups

i even copied and pasted what you said it should read

soemtimes it even takes me to my web search page?? this is not my default web page either google is something strange is going on........ hearing the music?

oh too bad
on Dec 26, 2006
ok, try putting the gabbly.com./ in front of the address and just hit the enter key and see what happens. It could be an IE issue as IE is not entirely standards compliant, I don't know. I haven't used IE in years.

no I went to my websearch and some stupid satisfaction survey.

the first time i did it turned off my firewall...
on Dec 26, 2006
I have turned my firewall back on and since then have been unable to even get the chat box open...so you are right it has to be firewall, but how did it turn my firewall off in the first place?

If I type in just gabblychat.com i get to a page that is under construction - what do you get if you go there?
on Dec 26, 2006
I don't know Jen. Maybe you should try using a different browser like Firefox.
