I got rolling before dawn this morning to try and beat the OK CIty morning rush. A little East of OK CIty traffic became a bit snarled. The reason? An oil well exploded and was spraying oil all over the interstate. That's a first for me. Emergency crews were out there trying to cap the well and spreading sand on the highway.
As traffic was still resonably light I made it through the mess fairly quickly but had to stop and clean the oil off my windshield. By the time I reached OK City traffic was building but still light enough for me to get through there without too much delay.
When I reached my delivery point in Electra, TX there was a large sign on the gate instructing drivers to wear a hard hat and safety glasses while outside of their truck. No problem. I reached behind the passenger seat and pulled out my blue hard hat and then grabbed my safety glasses out of the over head storage compartment. As I climbed down out of my truck the guy thanked me for obeying the sign. He said a lot of drivers just ignore it and then get nasty when he tells them they have to follow the safety rules. Some guys are just asshats I guess.
I'm now stopped at a small truckstop in Jolly, TX for a late breakfast. The place in Houston stops receiving at 4:30 so I'll have to deliver there tomorrow morning. No rush now.
I'll get through the DFW area before rush hour starts, and then it'll be an easy cruise down I-45 towards Houston. I'll find some place down through there to park for tonight and then have to fight the traffic into Houston tomorrow morning. Luckily the place is on the North side so I won't have to go all the way into the city.
Just another day on the road. It's always something.
