I delivered in Houston this morning and then made my way across US 290 to Austin and then a little North on I-35 to Georgetown to pick up some military crane parts heading for Oshkosh, WI. It all went reasonably well but I did get rained on while strapping/chaining down the crane parts. No biggie, I'm used to getting rained on.
I came a little way up the road to the North side of Temple, TX. There is a little truckstop here at exit 305 that has a small tin roof country bar on the corner of the parking lot. I've been stopping here for years. I parked my rig and walked through the rain to get inside the bar. The bartender was on her way out to the dumpster with a case of empty bottles as I was coming in. Seeing as it was raining I took the case of bottles from her and walked back out to the dumpster to toss them. I was already wet anyway so no sense in her getting soaked too.
While I was sitting here enjoying a brew and shooting the bull a damn tornado touched down right behind the bar. I mean RIGHT BEHIND it. Several of us less than intelligent folks rushed outside to see it. We watched it race NorthEast. It passed less than 100 feet from the back of my rig. Holy crap!
After the show was over we all came back inside to continue our beer drinking and bull shooting. I'm sitting at the bar now enjoying a fresh one.
The weather is supposed to be really nasty between here and WI. I am supposed to be in Oshkosh by 6:30am Monday. Either I'll be there or I'll blame being late on Murphy.
