A bunch of useless crap

I had some mechanical problems with my truck yesterday that cost me a few hours down time repairing it. I then ran into some snow across MT. One snowstorm was quite intense. It created white-out conditions which slowed traffic to a crawl. Funny thing though, it was only about 3 miles wide.

By the time I had reached the Western end of MT there was a lot of snow falling between there and Spokane. They had closed the interstate to trucks due to some nasty accidents. I had to spend the night there and wait out the storm. That happens this time of year in this part of the country.

As I came through the mountain passes the roads were reasonably clear. In some spots only one lane was cleared, but it was drivable. Beautiful country, but dangerous and temperamental weather this time of year.

I'm glad that I had allowed some extra time for this trip just for such situations. I've finally made it to Ellensburg, WA which is still about 2 hours out from Seattle. As I heard that the North Bend truckstop was already filled up I'll just stay here tonight and head into Seattle in the morning, taking advantage of the time difference.

Right now I am trying to figure out what is wrong with my generator. It will run for a little while and then shut down. That's a bit of a problem as it's my heat source when parked. This behavior usually indicates that it's either low on coolant or low on oil. I've checked both and they are fine. I have no idea what's wrong with it. If I can't get it running properly before bed time I'll have to idle the truck all night, which I hate to do. But it would be preferable to freezing to death.

It had shut down on me early this morning. I would feel cold, wake up, restart it, and then go back to sleep only to wake up cold again. I guess I'll have to get it into the shop to find out what's wrong with it. I'm hoping it's just a vapor lock in the fuel line and the restarts will eventually clear it.

It's always something.

There always seems to be Murphy's Law sneaking in.. I'm glad you allowed the extra time...Keeping fingers crossed it's just a vapor lock, and hopefully it will clear up quickly. Being cold is not something you want when you're trying to rest & sleep before driving in Seattle traffic. been there done that.. I love Seattle.. but the drivers there are different. Not all of them.. just some of them are not use to driving in cold & snow.

I've never minded the Seattle traffic too much. It's far better than Atlanta or Chicago

Bloody gennies! They can be so bleeding unreliable sometimes. I hope you stay warm all night - it is horrible to wake up feeling the cold...brrr. Well if you have to idle the truck all night the sound can put you to sleep - rock a bye baby truck lullaby

Electronic module troubles per chance? Just a thought.

Wouldn't be the first time

That's very possible. It could also be a loose fuel line connection causing it to lose prime. I checked for that, but could have missed something. Who knows?

I've given up on the generator and fired up the truck. Now the damn thing is only running a couple of minutes before shutting down and I'm not interrupting my knitting every couple of minutes to fire the stupid thing back up.

Goodness, I hope you stay warm Mason! Personally I love sleeping while someone else is driving. Perhaps just the sound of the truck would be enough too. Sounds like you're used to it. Have a good night!

Thanks. Over the years of sleeping in an idling truck I got so used to the sound and vibration of that big engine that I often found it hard to sleep in my own bed at home.

The generator sounds more like a lawn mower running and isn't quite the same but I have grow accustomed to it running while I sleep.

Hope you get it all figured out and fixed as needed soon Mason.

Spoken like a true knitter. Now you know why knitting is good for dieting... we don't want to stop knitting to do anything..lol

I hope you stay warm and sleep well, and you're able to find out what the heck is wrong & it is simple.

Be safe!

Thanks. I'll just forget the generator until I get back to the yard and let the mechanics fix it.

Sorry to hear about the generator.  Could it be bad fuel again?

Have fun in Seattle.  We got a teeny bit of snow, but I think we are done for the winter.

It doesn't seem like it. But it's possible the fuel filter needs to be changed.

Thanks.
