I had a reasonably good time tonight. I hobbled down the hill to the local boozer for a drink or three. As I expected, the boss was there along with a few other people I have come to know. Pete was suffering from a pulled shoulder muscle he acquired while plowing the snow out of his drive this weekend. I administered the appropriate amount of sympathy combined with derision one would naturally provide one's boss. He gave me the finger as he bought me a beer.
As I imbibed in a few adult beverages the rest of the office crew wandered in and out of the place, along with a few other of the locals that I have come to know over the years. Most of them like me, and I them. The other ones I just ignore and they avoid me.
A few people commented on my new cane. The first was an elderly lady who is a regular there. She said that she really liked the dragon head handle and expressed what is basically my own opinion that if one has to use a cane it may as well be an interesting one. She's a spry old bird who is a long way from needing a cane.
I met a new couple tonight who were pretty interesting to talk with. He was wearing a sweater that had a very interesting looking knitted pattern that I hadn't seen before. I commented on it and mentioned that I had recently taken up knitting and was trying to figure out the pattern.
He actually seemed to know a lot about knitting, saying that his mother was a long time knitter and he had picked up a lot from her. His girlfriend knew very little about knitting but said that she thought it was strange that a big, hairy, tough looking guy like me was talking about knitting. That made me laugh, especially when the bigger, hairier, tougher looking guy sitting next to me said that he thought it sounded interesting and that he had always wanted to learn how to knit. I busted a gut at that point.
All in all it was one of those pointless, complete wastes of time that make for a relaxing evening.
