I had to go to Wally World today to pick up some kitten food, cat treats, and some Gatorade for myself. I was expecting the Black Friday crowd. Amazingly enough the place wasn't any more crowded than it normally is, and maybe even a little less so. I was able to get in, get what I needed, and go straight to a register without having to stand in a line to check out. I was a bit amazed as I had steeled myself for the rudeness and bustle of manic shoppers.

Up until now I haven't purchased any treats for Socrates as I wanted him to stick to a healthy diet during his big growth stage. Now that he's 6 months old and is pretty close to his adult size (man has he grown!) I bought a package of treats while picking up some kitten food today. They're something called 'Pounce Moist Seafood Medley"" cat treats. I think we have a winner folks. He really seems to like them. He's quite polite about eating them though. If I hold it out to him with my fing...

I just got back from the local Pak Mail. I had to send my paperwork to the office. If I want to be paid next week it has to be there no later than tomorrow so I shipped the envelope Priority Overnight with Saturday delivery. I was expecting it to cost me between $20-$25. I was wrong. It was $47.51 to send a frigging envelope over night to WI from FL. Unbelievable. I should open up a Pak Mail or other shipping office franchise. Those folks are making a killing. If it weren't for my ...

Good Lord I am still stuffed. We ate around noon. Turkey, baked ham, potato salad, yams, green beans, corn, rolls, dressing, deviled eggs, and a bunch of other stuff I can't even recall right now. For three people. Good grief. Plenty of leftovers, that's for sure. I ate so much that I didn't even have room for pie. I'll have to get some of that later. I'm sure everyone else, at least those in the US, are also suffering from overeatingitis right now.

If you're not familiar with Richard "Lowtax" Kyanka, the guy is a somewhat famous (in geek circles) internet prankster. The guy can be quite hilarious at times, especially when you consider that the people on the receiving end of his IM pranks have no idea they are being pranked. Here is a prime example: Link

I've been playing around with the Gnome desktop environment and desktop settings. I kind of like the results.

My little gray buddy is back home from the vet's office. He doesn't seem much worse for wear. It's obvious that he's a little sore and still feeling a bit off from being put under, but otherwise doesn't seem too upset by the whole ordeal. After getting a bit of reassuring petting he wandered around to make sure home was still as he expected it to be, he enjoyed some food and water before taking up his favorite perch in the front window. He seems to be fine if moving a bit gingerly. ...

I just discovered this guy. He makes custom made pens from wood and acrylics. They are beautiful one of a kind pens and could make a great Christmas gift for someone. He states that the pens are made individually without the use of duplicators, which makes each one unique. I found one style that I especially like and have already emailed him to inquire about it. It can be my Christmas gift to myself. For a custom made pen, the prices are quite reasonable. Link

As requested, I have put together a list of shaving related gift ideas. As many people's budgets vary I am including both low budget items as well as higher end items. A Good Quality double edge (DE) Safety razor: A good razor is key to getting a good shave. Here are a few suggestions for good quality razors. Merkur "Hefty Classic" aka Merkur HD. This is a classic DE razor and is a favorite among wet shavers everywhere. You can't go wrong with this razor, and the price is right a...

Today is the day for Socrates to go in to be neutered. Per the vet's instructions I took up his food at 6:00 PM last evening. He was a tad upset and confused at that. He kept going over to where his food is supposed to be and then looking at me as if to say "Where's my dinner?" He'd had access to food all day but as usual only nibbled. He does most of his eating at night. As I expected he woke me fairly early this morning, wanting to be fed. Naturally he doesn't understand why there is no ...

Yes, yet another Thanksgiving article. Get over it. Thanksgiving is a day we set aside to give thanks for all of those things for which we are grateful. As such, it's a time to reflect upon the past year and appreciate the things and people we have in our lives. Thinking about last Thanksgiving I am reminded of all of the changes that a year has brought. This time last year I was still in the process of recuperating from the car wreck that had almost killed me. I still didn't know at th...

I managed to get a bit of grocery shopping done today. I didn't buy too much, just some essentials like toilet paper, dish soap, and enough food to last a couple of days. I'm sure there will be enough Thanksgiving leftovers to cover the remaining days at home. Oh yeah, I also picked up a bottle of white zinfandel to go with the Thanksgiving meal. I also managed to get my laundry done today. Ok, ok, actually Mom did the laundry. But I did pack it all up again for the road. Mom was having...

I have always considered myself to be a gentleman, although I am very much in touch with the nitty gritty of the real world. I am not one of those people who presents a false persona online. I am who I am, warts and all. It seems that in some online communities this sort of real world honesty just doesn't quite fly. Tonight I received a PM from a moderator there telling me that a post I made wasn't acceptable and a member had complained about it. It was a post in their "off topic" sub-foru...

The Welsh government recently ordered a sausage company to rename it's product "Welsh Dragon Sausage" so that it includes the word "pork" so as to not mislead the public about the product. Their reasoning? Because the product does not contain any dragon meat. I have to wonder if they were able to issue this order with a straight face or was there a lot of snickering going on at the time. Link
