I received this in an email today. HISTORY LESSON FOR TRUE BELIEVERS......" For those who don't know much about history...... Humans originally existed as members of small bands of nomadic hunter/gatherers. They lived on deer in the mountains during the summer and would go to the coast and live on fish and lobster in the winter.. The two most important events in all of history were: ...
I just walked over to the c-store to pick up a six pack. One the way over I noticed several kids on bicycles and one, a black kid of around 9 or 10, was pushing his. As I drew closer I saw that both his tires were flat. I felt sorry for the kid and asked him what happened to his tires. I intended to offer to check out the tubes and patch them for him if needed as I have a full tire repair kit on hand. The kid was so damn rude that I immediately changed my mind about helping him out....
I'm pretty fed up with some of my neighbors. What the hell is it with some people? There are a few people who seem to think that my carport is a public sidewalk and I'm getting fed up with it. Whenever I come home I take the time to sweep the grass clipping andsand off my carport but within a day it's dirty again because of thesepeople tracking their dirt through. Several times a day I see a shadow go by on my carport. There are several people who, instead of walking down the ...
Saudi Arabia, a supposed ally of the U.S., arrested an American businesswoman for sitting with a male co-worker at a table in a Starbucks and having coffee with him. Under Sharia law this is illegal. The story is linked in the header of this article. These people really need to bring themselves out of the middle ages already. I find it especially interesting that the man was released without being charged with anything.
Now that Castro has officially announced that he is retiring as the President of Cuba and will not be seeking re-election, what will change in Cuba? My opinion is that his brother Raul will become the new elected President of Cuba and not much will change. I certainly doubt that anything will change in the relations between Cuba and the U.S. as long as a Castro remains in power in Cuba. Perhaps once Fidel dies Raul will feel free to make some small changes in Cuba. He h...
Judging from the articles popping up on JU it seems there are some mixed reactions to the new JU format. I suppose that's to be expected whenever any major changes take place. As with anything new there will be a learning curve and a bit of an adjustment period before most people get comfortable with the new format. And of course there will be some bugs to be worked out, which is also to be expected whenever one deploys thousands of lines of code. So far I have found one or tw...
There's aa site called MyMiniCity where you can "create" your own little city. It starts out very small and grows as people visit it via their browser. Sort of a SimCity kind of thing. I created one called Knit City. You can visit it at http://knit-city.myminicity.com/
This morning I had to run down to Boynton Beach to deliver the two trash compactors I hauled down from WI. I had told the guy I would be at the jobsite at noon and left early enough to ensure making it on time. I stopped at the truckstop in Vero Beach to fill my coffee cup. Just as I stepped out of the truck it started sprinkling. No big deal, it's FLorida and it tends to rain often here. Those big drops were pretty damn cold on my back though. I got my coffee and continued on...
I'm sad to say that this incident happened in my own home county. The deputy demanded that this man, who is paralyzed from the chest down and was arrested for a traffic warrant, stand up to be searched. After he insisted that he was paralyzed and unable to stand...well you can see for yourself how the deputy handled it. The deputy is now facing felony charges for abusing a disabled person, and rightly so.
For the past several weeks I have been testing a Linux distribution, PCLinuxOS, on my laptop. It's a pretty good distro, well designed and stable, but still not as fast as the one I normally use, Slackware. Today I decided to go ahead and put Slackware back on the laptop. It's been my primary operating system for years and I felt that I had pretty well put PCLinuxOS through it's paces. Right after I had reformatted the drive partitions and was about to start installing the OS the cdrom dec...
Yeah, I'm evil incarnate. I walked over to the c-store to get a couple of things. This homeless guy hit me up for money. I'm really short on cash myself at the moment after spending two weeks not working. The dude started giving me a hard time about it and I basically told him to fuck off. This unwashed piece of scum made the mistake of grabbing ahold of me and screaming at me. I shoved him away from me and as I started to walk away this moron ran towards me and took a swing at me. Wel...
I was supposed to deliver down near Miami this afternoon but had a change of plans. I spoke with the owner of the company that is to receive the deliver, a couple of trash compactors, and he said he wouldn't be able to unload them at the job site by the time I made it down there this afternoon as his people usually knock off early on Friday. That was just fine by me and I set things up to deliver around noon on Monday and put it in the wind for home. After being broke down in Oklahoma Cit...
A couple of the current presidential candidates are making a lot of noise about so-called universal health coverage. I have heard many people mistakenly refer to this as universal health care. They are not the same thing. Universal health coverage simply means that the government, using tax dollars, will be paying for health insurance for citizens and possibly non-citizens as well. Ok, that may sound really nice to some people but what does it really mean? Health insurance may be nice to h...
