This morning I had to run down to Boynton Beach to deliver the two trash compactors I hauled down from WI. I had told the guy I would be at the jobsite at noon and left early enough to ensure making it on time.
I stopped at the truckstop in Vero Beach to fill my coffee cup. Just as I stepped out of the truck it started sprinkling. No big deal, it's FLorida and it tends to rain often here. Those big drops were pretty damn cold on my back though. I got my coffee and continued on my way.
I ran in and out of rain most of the way down and expected that I would be getting rained on while taking the chains off the load. Just what I need while still getting over that bought of the flu. I got lucky though and it wasn't raining there at all. Good deal.
I made it there an hour early so I called the guy and let him know I was at the jobsite, then wandered over to a nearby diner and grabbed a bite to eat since I had an hour to kill. He showed up just about the time I returned from eating.
Watching these guys unload the compactors was a tad amusing. Instead of using a lull or a large forklift they had ordered a rollback wrecker and were using that to drag them off the back of the trailer, onto the rollback, and then dropping them into place. Well, whatever works I guess.
There was a rookie driver there delivering some stuff to the inside of the under construction store. He had a bit of trouble backing into the dock with all of the construction materials laying around. I stood and watched him for a while, enjoying the show and kind of feeling sorry for him at the same time.
Finally, after about 15 minutes of trying and failing to get into the dock, he stepped out of his truck and started looking around obviously trying to figure out what to do. Feeling sorry for the kid I walked over and asked if he needed any help. He was pretty frustrated and said there was just no way he could back the 53 ft trailer into the dock with "all this shit in the way".
I asked him if he minded if I took a shot at it. At that point he was so frustrated he just threw up his hands and told me to go for it. I hopped into his Pete, pulled it up as far ass possible and slightly around the corner, stabbed it into reverse and proceeded to back the trailer into the dock while working the tractor around the stuff laying around. One shot and it was in.
The kid was just standing and looking at me as I climbed down. I told him not to sweat it, it comes with experience. He offered to buy me a cup of coffee but as I haad eaten shortly before I declined and told him to just relax for a bit and that he could buy me a cup if he sees me in some truckstop out there someplace.
Once my crap was unloaded I put it in the wind back for the house. Dispacth hadn't yet found me a reload so I figured I may as well relax at home instead of sitting around in a truckstop. I hit rain a few miles North and pretty well satyed in it all the way back home. Luckily enough it stopped oncce I reached home though. It started again after I wass inside the house. How cool is that?
Another night at home. I'll probably have to hit the road again tomorrow. That's ok, I need the money.
