Yesterday I delivered a military fire truck to an Army Reserve post in WV. It was a heavy sucker and required overweight permits as I was grossing 92,000 lbs. That made for some slow climbs on the hills. I've been parked at the truckstop ever since make delivery waiting for them to find me another load. Ah well, at least it's given me some knitting time. Yesterday I started working on a beanie inspired by a pattern I saw on a piece of pottery. I worked on it last night while enjoying a few...
After getting my truck out of the shop this afternoon I cruised over to Hobby Lobby to pick up some yarn. After spending some time picking out various yarns for some projects I've had in mind I headed for the check out line. While waiting for my turn to check out a little old lady standing in line behind me commented on the basket full of yarn I was holding. "Do you knit?" she asked. "Yes Ma'am, I do" I replied. "How do you know what yarn to pick out?" she asked after a moment...
Yesterday I was supposed to pick up a truck in Savannah. I got to the auction place a little after they opened up. The customer in MN was supposed to have a wrecker there to load the thing (it doesn't run). No wrecker. I called them and they said they would get right on it. They called back in a few minutes and said it was on the way. Cool. Once it arrived we were allowed into the compound and I saw the truck for the first time. It was a wrecked tree trimming bucket truck. The cargo box w...
Ok, this is one really ugly hat. I wanted to learn how to work with more than one color and make more interesting designs, which entails learning the stranding technique in knitting. This hat is my practice project to learn the technique and practice it a bit. I didn't follow any sort of pattern, I just made it up as I went along, thus the ugly hat LOL. I did learn a lot doing it though.
After my extended holiday time at home it's drawing near to that time to hit the road once again. I have to be in Savannah, GA tomorrow morning. That's only about a 5 hour ride from here so I'm not in a major rush to get rolling. I've been spending the morning enjoying my coffee, cleaning up the kitchen and generally preparing the house to be closed up for a few weeks. No rush, just doing a bit here and a bit there. I'll head for the rig this afternoon, maybe around two or three. That shou...
Ok, time to change calendars, write the wrong date on checks, and generally adjust to another arbitrary numerical change in our measure of that illusion called time. Any excuse for a party I suppose. May the upcoming trip around the sun bring each and every one of you health, happiness, and blessings of all kinds. May friendships grow stronger, the tax man lose your address, and fortune smile upon you every day. Or not.
I haven't cooked a pot of pinto beans in ages but today it just sounded good. They're on the stove cooking with some cubed salt pork, onion, and garlic. They been simmering on the stove for a couple of hours now and are smelling pretty damn good. I think when they are getting close to ready later today I'll make some rice to go with them. I considered making cornbread, but my cornbread never does turn out as well as I would like, and I never have liked the mix stuff, so I think I'll just s...
Ok, I admit that I am not the easiest person in the world to get close to. I tend to keep people at a distance. I am not unfriendly by any means, just about anyone who meets me and spends any time with me would probably tell you that I am very outgoing, friendly, and gregarious person. But I have a limit to that. As long as things are fun and casual it's cool. It's when someone, male or female, crosses some line between casual and personal that I put the skids on things. I get uncomfortabl...
I never got a call from dispatch today so I guess they didn't find me a reasonable load out of here. Looks like I'll be spending New Year's at home for a change. I'm not too surprised really. Business is usually dead during the holidays anyway. If I have to choose between spending New Year's Eve sitting comfortably at home or in some damn truckstop someplace, I'll choose my recliner every time. I don't have any sort of party plans for New Year's. I don't like to be out on amateur drunk...
One of the knitting forums I frequent got attacked by some damn spammer trying to sell cell phones. I truly despise these people and hope there is an especially brutal spot in Hell reserved for these asshats.
I sat around all day waiting for a call from dispatch so I could get back on the road and make a few bucks. I wasn't too surprised that I hadn't heard from them with this being the holiday season and all that. Late today I decided to go ahead and buy some groceries to make dinner tonight. Around 4:00 I picked up some beer as I figured if I hadn't heard from them by then I wasn't going anywhere today. Right. I got the call a few minutes ago, about 3/4 of the way through my second brewski...
I found a great tee shirt that I need to order. It should cut down on some of the dumb questions I sometimes get while knitting in truckstops. Link
OK, I know that tech support spends most of their time dealing with complete morons. I get that and they are trained accordingly, but they should at least make an effort to put people into those support positions that at least have a small clue about the system they are supposed to be supporting. Come on! For at least the past couple of weeks the dsl signal here has been dropping out every few minutes. Just enough to screw up downloads, watching of videos, and online chatting. It's extreme...
Ok, Christmas is all over and done with now. For the most part it's time for life to return to normal once again. I spent today waiting for a call from dispatch that never came, catching up the last of the laundry and doing the ironing, and basically getting things ready for the road once again. I'm not overly surprised that dispatch didn't find a load today. Many places shut down by noon last Friday so it's no mystery as to why they wouldn't have anything ready to ship today. I'm act...
I made a couple of hats as Christmas gifts. They turned out ok I guess.
