When I got to the shipper on Sunday to pick up the CNC machine it was obvious right off that this was going to be "one of those" trips. The oversize permits were supposed to have been faxed to the plant and waiting for me at the guard shack. They weren't. The guard had no idea what I was talking about. Ah well, I can't say I was too surprised. I would have been more surprised had they actually been there. Actually loading up the machine and all of the associated parts didn't take too long....
I am working on the second pair of baby booties, blue for a boy this time. I could just whip up another pair just like the pink ones, but if I am going to give these as a gift I want this baby to having something original and unique just as with the pink ones for the first baby. I have started and frogged the blue bootie at least ten times already. I work out a design idea in my mind, knit it up, don't like it, and tear it back apart again. At one point I was very near completion on the first...
I finally got an email from dispatch regarding a load. It's an oversized load coming out of Vidalia, GA which is about 7 hours from here. At this point they aren't certain when it will actually be ready to load and the shipper will be calling me directly to coordinate the loading. I pointed out to dispatch that at 12' 2" wide it may be pointless to load it on the weekend as GA may not allow weekend movement of the load. Also, at that width it may possibly require escorts which will also have ...
I finished the pink baby booties this morning. I am hoping the mother likes them.
Recently the UK formally gave binding legal status to Sharia courts there in regard to civil cases. They recognize these courts as legally binding arbitration. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/crime/article4749183.ece I just finished reading and replying to a thread on another forum entitled "The Worst Of All Possible Mistakes" in which the poster stated that "Great Britain has just committed suicide..." and " And thus collapses one of the oldest systems that claimed that...
I've been playing around with my webcam and decided to set it up as a streaming feed. Mostly just to try it out. First I set up my own server with IP forwarding from my dsl router, and placed a webpage with a viewing applet on it. That worked pretty well, but as I don't want to have my router opened up like that all the time I took that down again after playing with it for a bit. Then I set up an account at a free webcam hosting site and linked that feed into a webpage hosted by my isp.&nb...
I had planned on riding the bent to the grocery some time today. The food supplies I bought when I got home from the road are running low and I knew I needed to get enough to last three or four more days. Somehow the day just sort of drifted by and before I knew it the clock, and my stomach, indicated that it was getting close to dinner time. Hmmm, what to prepare for dinner? I had finished off the last of the turkey breast and Swiss cheese for lunch. Check the fridge; 3/4 of a pound...
I installed and am running Avant Window Navigator, which works with the Linux compositing window manager and the Gnome desktop environment. I think I've set up a pretty cool looking desktop. Well, at least I like it.
I finished the first pink baby bootie. As this is my first attampt at booties I hope it doesn't look too terrible. *edit: Based upon some input from folks at Knitting Help I added a ribbon tie so the bootie can be better secured on the baby's foot.
Despite the fact that my clothes dryer decided to go South on me today it's been a pretty good day. I slept in for a change, enjoyed some nice freshly ground coffee when I got up, and have pretty much spent the day loafing. I'm working on some pink baby booties for a husband and wife trucking team that I know who are expecting in December. She said she thought it would be cool to have the baby wear a pair of booties made by a fellow trucker. As I am not much for using other people's p...
When I got home the other day I got with the phone company and placed an order on Mom's behalf for DSL service at her place. The modem and assorted parts arrived yesterday and the service was scheduled to be on today. She has a laptop thanks to the generosity of a JU couple, to whom she and I are very grateful. I set it up with Linux so I don't need to worry about her getting a virus or something on it. She's not all that computer literate and I figured it would just be safer that way. I se...
When I walked outside this morning I was greeted by the site of this: It had bloomed during the night. There are several more "buds" that should bloom over the next few days. It was a nice surprise first thing in the morning.
Damn I hate having the hiccups. Annoying as hell. Been going on for an hour now and I'm getting pissed. That's all.
I finally made it home once again. I'm pooped. A couple of times I thought about just pulling in somewhere and finishing the trip home tomorrow. But I really wanted to sleep in my own bed tonight instead of the truck, so I pushed on. As I sit here in my recliner, swilling a cold beer and enjoying the feeling of not being in motion, I have to say it was worth it. I hammered down to Miami today to deliver the final piece, a concrete pump heading for Guatemala. I got the the freight forwarder an...
I am finally on my way home. I have stops in NC, SC, GA, and FL on my way. I should be home in a couple of days. While still in WI I decided to visit the local western shop to pick up some jeans and a couple of shirts as I was pretty low on clean clothing. I could have just gone to a laundry but I hate laundrymats. I have shopped in this western store for several years and have gotten to know the owner a bit. He takes great pride in his personal service and was happy to assist me in findin...
