A bunch of useless crap

I always enjoy the Thanksgiving leftovers more than the original meal for some reason. I think it just tastes better after spending the night in the fridge. I just finished my dinner consisting of said leftovers. I even gave Socrates a piece of turkey which he really seemed to enjoy.I don't make a habit of feeding him people food as I don't want him spoiled for the more nutritious cat food. But I don't suppose a little treat once in a while will do any harm.

We're spending a nice relaxing evening chilling out in front of the boob tube and surfing the net. This time of year a lot of people are busy with the normal holiday activities such as parties, shopping, and decorating for the season. Some of us just sit at home enjoying the peace and quiet of solitude while refusing to be dragged into the commercial mentality that is the Holiday Season.

Humbug? Not at all. I really enjoy the holiday season, just not the commercial orientation that goes with it these days. When the stores replace the Halloween candy with Christmas candy at the same time they're stocking Thanksgiving turkeys and cranberry sauce I feel they're pushing things just a bit too much. Today is the day after thanksgiving and people are decorating for Christmas (my mother included). I even saw a Christmas tree stand set up today. I think if one is going to put up a live tree they should wait a while yet. It'll likely be dried out and brown and/or burn their house down long before Christmas arrives.

I think the reason that people kill themselves over the holidays isn't because of depression, loneliness, or anything like that. I think it's simply because they can't bear the thought of the Christmas season starting on July 5th next year.

I hear you,  I think stores push Christmas tooooooooo early as well as too hard.

We couldn't kick back today,  so.....will tomorrow though!

Turkey does taste better the second day!

I'm with you on this one, mate. I don't like the commercialisation of holidays at all. I think the early starts just ruin the 'feeling' of it, if you know what I mean. Hell, there were people putting up decorations and trees around the hospital in the first week of November! This sort of ruins the anticipation for me.

It seems to get earlier every year.

Yep. I grow tired of it all long before the actual holiday arrives.

Going to stores right now requires body armor and a pointy stick.

Although I agree with you as far as the commercialization of the holidays goes, statistically there are more suicides during April. December is quite a bit lower since people actually make an attempt to be nice to their fellow humans.

It bothers me to see Christmas decorations starting to go up prior to thanksgiving though.

I wasn't certain since this is a "fact" that gets tossed around alot during the holiday season. When I did a 2 day suicide intervention workshop at my last post, this was believed to be true by a number of the participants.
Cyrano loves little chunks of leftoer turkey that fall out of my sandwich. it's probably better for him than most canned food. At least in moderation.
