A bunch of useless crap

I spoke with my office this morning regarding a load out. She said that she had lined one up but that another outfit stole it out from under us by offering to haul it cheaper. I hate when that happens. These companies sometimes will haul for a loss just to get their truck to an area where they have another load waiting to be picked up.

Ah well, it's not like I mind being at home but I need to get rolling to make a buck or two. Hopefully something will turn up later today. In the meantime I have done everything I need to do to get the place ready to close up and my gear ready to go back on the road.

As much as I hate to dirty up any dishes now that I have them all cleaned and put away, I'm going to have to prepare lunch since I'm still here. Bad thing is, I didn't buy any additional food as there was a good chance of my leaving out before lunch time. I guess I'm off to the grocery to pick up something for lunch. I may as well get something to make for dinner in case I'm still home then. I'll get something that will keep in the cupboard just in case I leave out before dinner time.

HERE'S HOPING YOU GET YOUR WISH. ENJOY LUNCH! [Oops, sorry about the caps, at work and doing something, then forgot to change over!]

Makes sense.  A loss paying load still is better than a dead head one.

Actually I disagree. The truck would burn far less fuel running without a load than with one. To me it makes no sense to haul freight without making a profit from it. Even breaking even would make more sense to me than hauling at a loss.

I picked up some stuff to make spaghetti. I made enough for my lunch as well as having enough sauce left over for my dinner should I need it. If I leave before dinner time I'll just take it along and reheat it using the microwave in the truck.

When my ex and I were in the taxicab business, we hated to deadhead. The idea was to pick up a load, ( passenger usually) drop them and then get one where we dropped off.
Sometimes I'd deadhead though out of the ghetto area as there was bullets flying around as well as people wanting a cab, then jumping out and running without paying.

We had spagetti today, I knew he wouldn't want chili so all the more for me! Have you posted your spagetti sauce recipe before?

It's the same idea in trucking but unlike a cab, truck freight doesn't all pay the same rates. I'd rather deadhead than haul a load for nothing. Why should I pick up, chain and/or strap, and possibly even tarp a load, all hard work, and then drive to where it's going and do it all in reverse for a rate that amounts to paying me $1-$2 an hour? While freight is rated by mileage I always equate the rate to an hourly pay. The vast majority of my loads pay me between $20-$30 an hour, so I'd rather save the time and work and just deadhead some place to get a good load than work for a buck an hour.

Don't blame you, I would too.

I don't think I have, but I cheated this time and went with a jar of sauce to save time and work. Not as good as my own but in this case, easier.
