Five years ago today the United States suffered the worst attack since WWII. This attack, carried out not by another nation but by a small group of Islamic radicals, forever changed our country. Unless you're one of the small number of loons who accuse the US government of being behind this evil act, and whether or not you support our current military actions in the Middle East, or are yourself a terrorist or terrorist supporter, the events of five years ago are remembered with a sadness a...
Well, ok it isn't exactly the roof that leaks but rather the skylights but since they're mounted in the roof it's close enough. Ever since I bought this little place the skylights have leaked whenever it rains. It's annoying but somehow so far it hasn't been annoying enough for me to actually do something about it. Maybe I'm lazy. Well, ok, I am lazy. When I come in off the road I just don't want to spend time actually working. As I'm writing this I'm watching the water drip down from ...
I wanted to prepare a goulash type meal for dinner tonight. I had the ground chuck browning and water boiling for the macaroni. I pulled the macaroni box out of the cabinet and discovered that it was almost empty. There wasn't nearly enough for this dish. I dumped it in the pot and it was definately not enough. I did have some Kraft mac n cheese, so I opened one of those and dumped the macaroni into the boiling water. That would be plenty now. After browing the meat I added some roma to...
I went to the barber shop this morning for my regular trim. My usual barber was out sick today. I almost decided to just leave and come back when he's there but I figured what the heck, I'd go ahead and let the lady who was working do it. She did a nice job although not quite as good as my usual guy does. During the haircut she asked if I would like any gel on my hair. I told her no, that I use Brylcreem and since I know they don't use it there just a bit of lilac tonic would do. When I...
Socrates is still feeling poorly because of his first vaccinations. The vet said it would make him feel a little under the weather for a few days. He feels bad and he wants some attention. I'm trying to use the mouse and type on the keyboard with a cat laying on my chest, nipping at my hands, and generally being a pest. But knowing that he doesn't feel well I can't put him off either. He needs a little loving and attention because he feels a little sick so I'm indulging him. When I do p...
Towards the end of the golf course, Dave hit his ball into the woods and found it in a patch of pretty yellow buttercups. Trying to get his ball back in play, he ended up thrashing just about every buttercup in the patch. All of a sudden.....POOF! In a flash and puff of smoke, a little old woman appeared. She said, "I'm Mother Nature! do you know how long it took me to make those buttercups? Just for doing what you have done, you won't have any butter for your popcorn for the rest...

Geez, who knew a cat could be so damned hard to hold on to. I'm putting the drops in Socrates' ears as the vet instructed in order to get rid of the ear mites. Of course he doesn't understand why I'm putting something wet in his ears and doesn't appreciate it much at all. It's a real struggle to hold on to him and get the drops in his ears and then rub it around so that it makes contact where it has to do so. He fights me every step of the way. I don't want to hold his head so tightly that...
My hair has always been somewhat unruly. It's nearly impossible for me to get it to stay combed without something to help hold it in place. It isn't curly or anything although it does have a natural wave to it, it's just a bit dry and the slighest breeze blows it all over my head. I've tried various hair grooming products over the years. Many of the new products either make the hair feel stiff, greasy, or simply don't work. I like my hair to look neat and remain combed, but I don't want it...
After spending the money for a Merkur Futur razor I have been doing a little reading up on shaving tips and techniques. I also joined a shaving forum. Yes, believe it or not there really is such a thing. I am almost 45 years old and I am learning that I have been shaving wrong all of these years. I've always just wet my face with hot water, slathered on some shave cream, and scraped off the whiskers with the razor. It seems that there is a lot more to it than that, at least according to th...
Someone recently purchased the place next door to me. It happened while I was out on this last round on the road. I had noticed the old pickup truck sitting there and a man's bicycle, but until this evening I hadn't actually seen anyone over there. After dinner I decided to talk a walk before it got dark and the buzzards, I mean mosquitos, came out. As I was returning from my walk I saw a man riding a bicycle coming up the street towards me. He turned into the drive of the place next door ...
Well we made it back home from Socrates' first trip to the vet. Being as I am the only person he is used to interacting with he was frightened by the people there. He especially didn't like the fact that they kept putting their hands on him, and was totally put out when the girl inserted the swab to get a sample for the worm test. I think he was very insulted by that. The physical and injection went pretty well. He voiced a smal objection to the injection, but actually took it better than ...
