The community in which I live is all private property with all privately owned streets. There are signs at the beginning of each street stating this fact along with "No Trespassing". Of course there is a certain element of society that ignores such warnings and feel that they entitled to go wherever they please even if it's illegal to do so. We get a few of these people wandering through just about every day. As there have been a few break ins most of us keep an eye out for people who do not ...

This is from the nutty site Will It Blend? I think it's a perfect treatment for an over priced phone.

I took my GPS with me when I rode the bent to Publix a little while ago. I decided to do a bit of geocaching along the way. I got lucky and found two this time out. The first one was hanging below a wooden bridge on a bit of fishing line. It took me a few minutes to find it but as the name of the cache was "Troll" I assumed it would have to be under the bridge. It only contained a log which i signed to document the find. The second one was called "My House" and once I followed the GPS...

When I called the phone company last week to have my service transferred to the new house the CSR mentioned at one point that I would have to contact PeoplePC to change my information with them. Huh? I have DSL so why would I have a dial up service them them? The CSR checked my billing records and found that PeoplePC had been billing me through my phone bill since March. That was news to me but explained why my monthly phone bills had seemed higher lately. To be honest when I come in off ...

It's been raining here. I walked outside a few minutes ago and was greeted by a beautiful full rainbow. You know the ones, they are a perfect full arc that isn't missing any parts. It was a nice sight to see. There is something about a rainbow that just brightens the spirit a bit. A beautiful flower in the sky. Unlike a lot of things, knowing the scientific reasons behind a rainbow doesn't lessen the enjoyment of it in any way. They're one of those little joys that nature tosses your way ev...

When I called to have my phone and DSL service transferred from my old place to the new one the CSR was kind enough to inform me that they had a new package deal that bundled both services as well as long distance, voice mail, caller ID, and call waiting and would save me about ten bucks a month. As I had only had local service and DSL before it sounded like a good deal to me. As I hadn't previously had caller ID service I didn't have a caller ID unit. I figured I would pick one up eventua...

Ok, now I know there have been a lot of goofy gadgets and gimmicks sold over the years, but I have just seen a television ad for one that is definitely among the top contenders for the A Sucker Is Born Every Minute Award. It's called, of all things, the FishPen. Yup, that's right, the FIshPen. I just had to look this one up to make sure it wasn't some sort of joke. Sadly it's a real product and more sadly I am sure there are people out there spending their hard earned money on this thing. ...

I've decided to take a break from the sorting and putting away of my stuff for the rest of the day. I need some rest as I have been going full tilt since I got in from the road. I have the living room in good order, the kitchen is finished and quite presentable and usable, the bathroom is now done (except for pile of laundry currently being done). I've made a small start on the disaster of a bedroom but that can wait until tomorrow. I'm still doing laundry but it's not like that's so much ...

Good grief. I'd forgotten just how much work setting up in a new place can be. It seems like no matter how much I do the mess just seems to remain. Today I've managed to more or less get the kitchen together and usable. I've set up my computer desk and computer system (no DSL yet), rewired the phone lines, installed some shelving in the hall pantry and stored the pots and pans on said shelving, made a grocery run, and made a small dent on getting the bathroom in some sort of reasonable sh...

On my way home today Mom called me and said that her friend wanted to sell me her place right across the street from Mom. She offered a good price, was willing to carry the financing herself, and as she knows that paying interest and finance charges is against my religion (CCB) she would finance for 0%. I went and looked the place over and it's much larger than my place, is fully furnished including two televisions, and a machine that is both a washer and a drier in one unit (now I have to...

I was reading about geocaching Link and decided that it sounds like fun. It's basically like a scavenger hunt using a GPS. The cache can be anything from a simple container with nothing more than a log inside for you to sign, or it could contain any of a number of things. The rule is if you take something, you also leave something. As I am killing time here at the truck stop in Vero Beach, FL I did a cache search for anything near these coordinates and found a listing for a cache about a...

I watched the M. Night Shyamalan movie Lady In The Water last night. While it certainly isn't award winning material it was a very enjoyable and interesting movie. Well worth investing the time to watch. It's full of mythos and fantasy set in very ordinary surroundings, and even has a couple of surprises for you. Like I said, it's not going to sweep the awards by any means, but if you're at the video store looking for something a little different to kill some time this movie would be a go...

I'm on a load home. I loaded most of it at the yard in WI on Tuesday morning and then picked up two large crated machines in Holland, MI on Wednesday morning. The first stop is in Jacksonville, FL for Monday morning, then I have a stop in Ft Lauderdale and one in Miami. Once I get them delivered I'll be going home for about a week. As I can't deliver until Monday I've been doing the run in small hops. I don't want to get down there too quickly and wind up sitting around in one truck stop f...
