A bunch of useless crap

The community in which I live is all private property with all privately owned streets. There are signs at the beginning of each street stating this fact along with "No Trespassing". Of course there is a certain element of society that ignores such warnings and feel that they entitled to go wherever they please even if it's illegal to do so. We get a few of these people wandering through just about every day. As there have been a few break ins most of us keep an eye out for people who do not belong here.

A couple of minutes ago I walked into the kitchen and glanced out the kitchen window. I saw a guy standing on my carport next to my bent. I immediately shot out the door but as soon as I hit the door he took off running like a jackrabbit. Scumbag. It's probably a good thing he took off running, otherwise I might be on my way to jail now for assault and battery on a trespasser. I keep my bike locked with a very good quality cable lock, but I still don't like the idea of someone feeling like they can just walk right up on my carport uninvited.

What the hell is wrong with these people? I wouldn't dream of just walking up onto someone's property like that. Damn good way to get shot, especially in this state where deadly force to defend self and property is legal.

We have two Chiefs of Police that go to my church from two neighboring towns. One of them told me that if we shoot someone on our property, we'd better drag them into the house afterwards. Because that's the only way we'd get away with shooting anyone on the property. They have to be IN the house before you shoot em.

I feel pretty safe here tho. I live in the country at the end of a dead end country road for one thing. Another thing is I have a State Trooper as my only close neighbor. Last but not least, I have Quincy Dog...heh!

That's the difference between one state and another. If you drive into Florida you'll notice billboards warning visitors that Florida residents have a legal right to use deadly force defend themselves.

Adults?  No way!  But we do have some toddlers in the neighborhood - and they love our cats (who they will never catch).  So when they come around, it is a good way to meet the new neighbors - and make sure that they are not getting into trouble. (The parents are never far behind).

I'm pretty sure everywhere allows deadly force in defense of self and others. It's property that often does not carry that along with it, because another human being should be worth more than stuff. Try telling that to the guy whose stuff is being taken, though.

Yeah, kids are different. Not many of those in our neighborhood though.

Frankly, I partially agree with you but if someone takes it on themselves to steal from another they get what they get and I don't feel the least bit sorry for them if they happen to get shot. If someone is breaking into my home I assume they are not there for milk and cookies.

I can't stand people who encroach on your private property to steal your stuff! They might be stuff but they are the stuff you work hard to have! You know, I read your article following this and I going to ask you if you have trouble in your neighborhood being away so much, how safe is your home and do you have to get an alarm?

I feel your anger!   I just found out today that two men have been coming onto the property here,  at night,  and stealing the vegetables we've planted,  weeded,  watered!

Where DO these scum get off?  just taking what they want?   YOU have an expensive bent,  all we have are vegies,  yet it's the idea of something just being taken away.......sheesh...
