A bunch of useless crap

When I called to have my phone and DSL service transferred from my old place to the new one the CSR was kind enough to inform me that they had a new package deal that bundled both services as well as long distance, voice mail, caller ID, and call waiting and would save me about ten bucks a month. As I had only had local service and DSL before it sounded like a good deal to me.

As I hadn't previously had caller ID service I didn't have a caller ID unit. I figured I would pick one up eventually. Today when I rode over to Dollar general to pick up a few items I saw that they had a phone there that had caller ID for ten bucks. I really didn't expect it to be much for that price but what the hell. I bought one.

It's actually a pretty cool phone. It's basically a desk model with a large LCD touch screen and speaker phone function. One dials it via the touchscreen. The caller ID not only displays the calling number, but it speaks it as well. Cool. No need to even get up from your seat to know what number is calling. I was surprised that the sound quality of the thing is actually pretty good.

It also has a calendar, alarm, and some assorted other functions that I haven't even bothered to explore yet. Not too bad at all for a mere ten bucks. I figure if it lasts a few months I got my money's worth.

And it slices and dices and makes Julianne fries!

Seriously, yea, but then with the features and prices of cells, they got to compete!  The only reason I have a phone (basic - no frills) is fax.  My cell does Caller ID, VM, Redial, and LD with no extra charge.  They have a lot of competition.

Enjoy it!
