A bunch of useless crap

Good grief. I'd forgotten just how much work setting up in a new place can be. It seems like no matter how much I do the mess just seems to remain.

Today I've managed to more or less get the kitchen together and usable. I've set up my computer desk and computer system (no DSL yet), rewired the phone lines, installed some shelving in the hall pantry and stored the pots and pans on said shelving, made a grocery run, and made a small dent on getting the bathroom in some sort of reasonable shape.

And yet the place is still basically a mess. I unearthed my bed last night and made it up so I could get some sleep and now it's once again buried under a mound of stuff that has been moved around during the day as I have sorted through finding the various and sundry items needed for a task. It took me over an hour to find my damn tools. They were buried under a mound of spare computer parts and winter coats. Yeah, I know, really lacking in organization there but when one moves their entire household in a single afternoon things tend to just get piled.for later sorting.

For the most part the living room doesn't look too bad now. I have the entertainment center set up, the aforementioned computer center, sofa, recliner (loving the recliner), and end tables set in place. The carpet hasn't yet completely dried. Yesterday it was dyed from an ugly cream sort of color to a dark blue so I have sheets of plastic placed as runners (taken up over night) so as to not track the blue dye all over the place. Even with the ac running full time it has yet to fully dry. I suspect it will take at least another full day as the humidity has been so high. It's a good thing I like blue as various shades of it are the dominant colors in this place.

It's kind of cool to have a more or less full sized kitchen once again. I cooked dinner tonight and it's going to take a little bit to get used to the new stove, but otherwise it was very nice to have all of that room and counter space to work. And lots of cabinet space is very nice.

Now I am beat. I'm taking a little after dinner rest before doing the dishes. I also have to pull a load of laundry out of the machine as it is now dried. Just towels and such so I just have to pull them out and fold them. No ironing on this load. Tomorrow I'll have to start doing my road laundry or it will never be ready in time for me to leave. The machine is nice but it doesn't hold a lot.

Ok, I guess I've rambled enough now. Just stalling before doing the dishes.

It sounds like you've already done so much work on your place in so little time!

We're stalling with the dishwashing, too. I've only done a few and have convinced myself that I need a break...lol.

Yeah I've been working my butt off but it seems like the piles aren't getting any smaller. It's my imagination of course, but geez! That's what happens when ya just pile stuff instead of packing it neatly into boxes.

The only stuff that actually got packed, more or less, was the dishes and such. Speed moving

Isn't doing dishes so much fun? I try to keep mine done so as to make it less work at a time as well as to prevent attracting any 6 legged visitors. I did learn the hard way that the hot water here is much hotter than in my old place. There I would just run pure hot water into the sink. I did that here and scalded my hand when I reached in to start washing. Had to run in some cold just to cool it enough to make it tolerable.

I never heard of dying carpets, but I guess anything is possible.  However, with my klutzyness, that would not be the only thing dyed!

You need to get a nice big dog that your mother can care for when you are on the road, and that will do your dishes when you are home.

You have to use a carpet shampoo machine filled with the dye. It can be a messy job but the results are good.

Nah, no dogs for me.Would be different if I weren't on the road all the time. She has two small ones herself and they keep her busy enough.
