Everything about me is random I wear a size 12 shoe I love mystery stories and am happily awed if a writer did a story well enough for me to not have it figured out too early. I got my first speeding ticket 2 weeks after getting my first license and motorcycle. 132mph in a 35mph zone. Neither the cop or my mother were too pleased with me. The first words out of the cop's mouth were "Damn I hate driving that fast!" I dropped out of High School in the 11th grade out of sheer boredom...
I spoke with my boss Thursday afternoon and he asked me if I would like to trade my Freightliner for a new Western Star. Duh, of course I would. The Western Stars have larger and nicer sleepers, built-in refrigerators, an APU that provides heat and air conditioning without the need to idle the truck as well as 110V ac to power things like microwaves, coffee pots, and the like. They're also a much better looking truck to boot. He said mine would be ready for me to move into by the time I...
Yesterday my dispatcher called me while I was driving through IL on my way to deliver in WI. "I want to run something by you, but hear me out before you say no." So I listened to what he had to say. He has a loada with two generators, one going to Tempe, AZ and the other to Phoenix, AZ, and a Bushmaster military truck going to a military show at Camp Pendleton, CA. I have to say here that we have an understanding, he and I. I don't do the People's Republic of California. He said the on...
I left home yesterday (Monday) amid a deluge of rain and some pretty strong winds. I got out before the worst of Alberto hit, but was in heavy rains all the way out of Florida. Georgia was only having light rain. As I was headed for Charleston, SC to make my pick up for this morning I was still pretty much right in the storm's path. I got up early, light rain, had a quick breakfast and did the final 45 minutes to my pick up. I was lucky in that it wasn't raining while I loaded and chained ...
Well, I guess Pres. Bush has one again failed to, ummm, no actually it seems the Administration deserves some credit here but it seems that this doesn't deserve a lot of heavy MSM press. VIOLET, Louisiana - The US Army Corps of Engineers has met its goal of fixing battered levees around New Orleans as the new hurricane season starts.... Link
Tropical Depression 1 has now strengthened to Tropical Storm Alberto, the first named storm of the season. And we are now being visited by Alberto. What we got yesterday was just the far-flung bands from it. As far a Tropical Storms go, this one's not very impressive, but we're starting to get the winds and rain from it. We really do the need the rain, but I would prefer a nice steady rain instead of this sort of tropical downpour with all the wind. It's looking like we may be in for an...
From UPI: OSLO, Norway (UPI) -- A large meteorite struck in northern Norway this week, landing with an impact an astronomer compared to the atomic bomb used at Hiroshima. The meteorite appeared as a ball of fire just after 2 a.m. Wednesday, visible across several hundred miles in the sunlit summer sky above the Arctic Circle, Aftenposten reported. Peter Bruvold, a farmer, said he happened to be out in the fields with a camera because he was tending a foaling mare and he photographed ...
Yesterday's mail included a sumons to appear for jury duty. These are generated from driver's license records. I should think they'd realize that someone with a Commercial License is not very likely to even be home to see such a summons for a long time, let alone be around to appear. It's just sheer luck that I happened to be home when it came. I haven't even opened it yet so don't know when I am supposed to be there. My work requires me to be out of the state most of the time, and dealing...
I've been reasonably well off and I've been, and am currently, poor. Which is really the better way to live? I'll admit having a substantial income has it's advantages but is it really the "end all" of life today? I've owned nice homes on large pieces of property (kinda like a flea claiming to own pieces of the dog), and lots of cool toys like cars, bikes, and entertainment equipment. I've also slept beneath underpasses, in patches of woods, and in tents out in the forests while scroungi...
I was always one of those "serious" people. I took life seriously, I was ambitious, always looking to move up, make more money, all of that crap. I was also a strong, rational person. I never showed real emotion to anyone, not even myself. I never "blew up", or showed disappointment, or got truly upset about anything. Yes, there were times when I got into fights with people, but even then I never really got angry. If anything I got even colder. A couple of women I had dated in the past ev...
We've been getting rain bands from the tropical depression moving into the Gulf since late afternoon. It did cool things off quite a bit and was welcome. Around 6:00PM I had finished debugging some code I have been writing and started the compiler. I decided that, as it would likely take an hour or so to compile, it was a good time to hop on my bike and go get some beer. Just about that time it really cut loose with some heavy rain. What the hell, it's not like a bit of water will kill...
Today I decided to fire up the grill. I'd been wanting to since I got home from the road but just hadn't got around to buying the charcoal. As, to my horror, I discovered that I was out of toilet paper this morning I decided to hop on the bike and make a supply run. Nothing really compares to the taste of food cooked outdoors on an open grill. I used a mesquite charcoal to get that extra-good smoked flavor. Yum.
When I got out of bed and switched on the news this morning I was greated with weather radar image showing this year's first tropical depression threatening to become the first tropical storm to affect us this year. Right now it's over Western Cuba and heading into the Gulf of Mexico. As these are pretty warm waters it has real potential to become the first named tropical storm of the year. Even if it doesn't develop further it promises to give us some substantial rain late this weekend. ...
As most people tend to watch far more tv than myself, a lot of folks have probably seen this. I was just watching an episode of That 70s Show in which Alice Cooper was a guest star. The closing scene showed Alice playing Dungeons and Dragons with a couple of radio station dorks, I don't know why exactly, but this just cracked me up.
I'm watching the Jay Leno show. Ok, I know, it's not exactly quality programming, but it's on. Jay is out in the public asking people some pretty simple questions. It's scary how many people, including those who claim to be college educated, can't answer correctly. The questions I caught were: In what country was Christopher Columbus born? The major land masses on the planet are called...? (One dizzy bitch answered "lakes") What country were we at war with during the Revolutionary...
