Yesterday my dispatcher called me while I was driving through IL on my way to deliver in WI. "I want to run something by you, but hear me out before you say no."
So I listened to what he had to say. He has a loada with two generators, one going to Tempe, AZ and the other to Phoenix, AZ, and a Bushmaster military truck going to a military show at Camp Pendleton, CA. I have to say here that we have an understanding, he and I. I don't do the People's Republic of California.
He said the only reasons he was asking me to do it were A. It pays extremely well. and B. I was the only one he had available that he could count on to get the truck to the show on time. It's very important, hence the much higher pay. Basically the deal is as such: I drop the two generators on Monday, deliver the Bushmaster to Camp Pendleton on Tuesday before 10am local time. On Wednesday evening after the show I pick up the Bushmaster and deliver it back to the factory in Oshkosh, WI. The round trip will pay me about $2,000. Not bad.
Since he was in a bind and the pay was so good I decided to accept the run. I am now on my way to AZ. I have to admit that since I haven't visited the SouthWest in a few years, I'm looking forward to thaat part of it. I am not looking forward to dealing with CA though. That state's DOT and other law enforcement hate trucks with a passion and harass us at every opportunity.
It should be an interesting trip. I plan to get a room after delivery at Camp Pendleton and relax until time time to pick up again. I know the Australian bloke who is the Bushmaster factory rep and have already been informed that he will be at the show. I am looking forward to blowing the froth off a couple with him.
