A bunch of useless crap
In a week

I spoke with my boss Thursday afternoon and he asked me if I would like to trade my Freightliner for a new Western Star. Duh, of course I would. The Western Stars have larger and nicer sleepers, built-in refrigerators, an APU that provides heat and air conditioning without the need to idle the truck as well as 110V ac to power things like microwaves, coffee pots, and the like.

They're also a much better looking truck to boot.

He said mine would be ready for me to move into by the time I returned from this trip to CA. I suspect that my agreeing to help them out of a bind by taking this load despite my severe dislike of CA runs is why he decided to offer me a new truck. Sort of a small reward. But then, he and I have always liked each other and he's always taken good care of me there. He's the one who called me once a month during the year or so I was recouperating from the wreck even though we didn't know if I'd ever be able to return to work.

So I'm pretty excited at the prospect of getting a shiny new Western Star in about a week. I really dislike these Freightliners anyway.

This is a Western Star similar to the one I'll be getting (only I think mine will be black)

Yeah they are a good looking truck. Not so sure the boss would appreciate my putting flaming bunnies on his truck though

What's that old saying? Old truckers never die- they just get a new Peterbilt? So in your case it's a Western Star!
Congrats!!

Yup!  An RV with an extra long trailer!

It is indeed great news!  Way to go.  We will wait for the pics, and I will keep my eye open for Western Stars as I run up and down I-64.

Thanks. They're fairly easy to spot. They're the only trucks with kind of rounded sleeper sides instead of straight up and down (makes more room).

On the day I move into it I'll run and pick up a small microwave and coffee pot for it. Then it really will be like an RV

Bad side of it is that I really hate changing trucks. It's as bad as moving to a new apartment.
