I volunteer some time at a large and well known Linux help forum to assist people with Linux related technical issues and answering questions related to Linux. They are often newbies who are just learning the OS and need a bit of help, often with some pretty basic things, as they learn the different ways of getting things done in Linux as opposed to Windows. One thread today was a person asking about installing a new version of Firefox. His questions were extremely basic and it was obvious...
For the past 15 months Phoenix, AZ has been terrorized by someone randomly shooting and often killing people. Six people were murdered by these scum, and eighteen others wounded, with a total of a reported 36 shootings. At this point of course they are presumed innocent until proven guilty, but I surely hope they have captured the right guys. I also hope they never get out on the streets again. On my trip out to CA recently I had a stop in Phoenix and was very watchful for anything that lo...
As my hip was hurting a good bit this morning, I got out the vicoden I've had stashed back. The bottle only had two pills in it and Ive had them for a pretty long time now, maybe 7 or 8 months. They were prescribed at 2 pills every 8 hours. I took the two of them with my morning coffee hoping they would ease the pain in my hip a bit. They did help some. After eating my lunch I cracked open a brew. Just about the time I finished the second beer I feel a pretty healthy buzz and that's when I...
Ya have to love these tropical summers. Yesterday a wine warehouse here in town was struck by lightening and burned to the ground destroying 50,000 bottles of wine. At this moment another storm has moved in which looks to be even worse than the one yesterday. It has the usual wind, rain, thunder, and lightening, but today's addition is dime sized hail. Oh, cool. I actually enjoy storms for the most part. It's definately cooled down the house so no complaints on that score. I just hope noth...
Was playing around with my desktop graphics and kinda like the results.
Last night I was tinkering around with my desktop. I tried some new icons and graphics. It wasn't a radical change, but I thought it looked nice and so I posted a screenshot in my blog. Within a few minutes an Admin removed my screenshot image. WTF? There was nothing obscene, vulgar, or objectionable about my desktop at all. No nudie pic or anything like that. The only reasons I can think of for this is that either this Admin has gotten carried away here, screenshots have suddenly become a...
Ads like this would make me consider watching more tv. I think I may have posted this one before, but it's well worth a second look. Link
We're currently being pounded by a pretty severe thunderstorm. Heavy rain, lots of lightening, and a steady rolling thunder that hasn't taken a break since it started. I'm not talking about thunder/silence/ thunder. but a nonstop constant rumbling of thunder with the brilliant flashes of lightening that create it. A pretty impressive storm. I checked the radar and it's not all that big so it should pass on fairly quickly, but it's severe enough that Socrates is hiding under the couch to ge...
Thanks to Dr. Guy for reminding me of this one. Several years ago my girlfriend, who bowled on a league, and I went bowling with some friends. It had been planned for a week or so and as I hadn't been bowling since I was a kid I didn't own a ball or shoes or any of the usual stuff. During the week I had purchased a ball and had it drilled, some shoes, and a bag. The night came and we started bowling. My turn came and I followed my girlfriend's instructions, approached the line, took my ...
I'm feeling lazy today. I need to go to Wally World to get some supplies both for the next few days at home as well as for the road. It's blazing hot and I just don't feel like riding the bent the 4 miles to get there. Besides, I would have to make more than one trip to get everything if I ride the bent. Mom had an appointment to be examined and to schedule surgery to have her cataracts removed. She said she needed to go to Wally World herself after the appointment and that I could ride al...
Ever since we got home Socrates follows me to the bathroom and jumps up on the sink (no mean feat for someone that small) and watches as I pee. I think he must be gay or something. j/k It's cute how he follows me around while trying to not look like he's following me around. At this point he doesn't seem to like to be outside of about 10 feet of me. I'm sure as he gets older that'll change.
In case you don't already know, bash.org lists funny (sometimes) stuff that's actually been said on IRC. If you don't know what IRC is, well, definately leave a comment as it should be funny as hell. #667490 +(1508)- [X] So I got this really big usb drive, and me and my dad are trying to put shit on it. *Simpe has entered #cancelled my dad said its too big, and I guess it was so my mom comes in and is trying to push it in...it still didnt go in my brother uses his and it fit...

I was never exactly a cat lover until I got Socrates, but I have to admit he's pretty cool. So, do you like cats? Why or why not?
Ok, first off I have to admit I don't watch very much television so I haven't been completely indoctrinated by the media. I turn on the tv when I am home which is only about one week a month, often a tad less. I don't have cable either so I catch whatever is on the three or four broadcast stations that my rabbit ears can pick up. Will and Grace. Ok, a kind of cute show although it promotes some things I am not exactly in tune with. Have I ever mentioned that I am not the most PC person in ...
