Monday morning as I opened the door to climb into the truck Socrates rushed over to look out the door as he often does. I shooed him back as I climbed in but as I was closing the door he rushed back to the door. I halted the swing of the door and pushed him back with my foot. Just as the door was closing he ran over again and his right front paw was caught under the door when it closed. Naturally he screamed bloody murder. I opened the door to release his paw and he ran to hide, crying the...
Ok, a facetious title but a pretty interesting article. If you read it through you get the idea that they may not even be able to prove, disprove, or even know if they succeeded or not. Interesting just the same. Maybe this is how we got here? Link
I fell asleep again in class today... that sucks man, what did the teacher do? I am the teacher >.

The truckstop where I am parked doesn't sell beer. I am here until tomrrow morning and since there's no tavern nearby, I wanted some beer to help pass the time in a more enjoyable fashion. There's a C-Store across the highway (4 lanes) so I decided to go over there. I make it over there without getting run over, purchase my beer, and begin walking back. A lady in an Audi stops beside me in the driveway and says she saw me walking across the road with my cane, and could she give me a lift b...
I've been using a squirt bottle to train Socrates. We've been going round and round about his biting. He just wants to play but I am trying to teach him that biting is a bad thing. When he starts biting I'll tell him "NO!" and sometimes that will work. If he continues after the second "NO!", I say "I'm gonna get the squirt bottle." That works now as he's experienced the squirt bottle enough times to know exactly what that phrase means. I don't even need to squirt him any more, just threate...
It seems that no matter how high gasoline prices soar the roads are no less crowded. I still see just as many SUVs, motor homes, campers, and pickups pulling boats as ever. Obviously the oil companies are correct in their assumption that they can charge whatever they like and people are still going to be buying and wasting just as much as ever. Today, Sunday, the interstates were jammed with traffic. Not just a lot of local traffic, but license plates from all over. All of these travelers ...
It's not a good morning so far. I woke up in pain and by the time I managed to get myself dressed and hobbled to the truckstop building I was definately not in a good mood as every step was an excerise in pain tolerance. Like a lot of truckstops these days they have more floor displays than they do floor space so walking through the place is a tad cramped and there just isn't a lot of room to pass another person. As I was making my way through the maze of displays toward the restaurant to ...
These look pretty awesome. It's a bicycle/electric driven hybrid vehicle. It looks like a pretty steep price on them right now, but perhaps they'll come down if they catch on. I'd love to try one out. Link
A couple of days ago as I was riding through Kentucky, something caught my eye up ahead and on the side of the highway. I had to do a double take because I didn't believe I was really seeing what I thought I was seeing. Sure enough, there was a camel, large as life, walking along the fence line beside the interstate. And what was even more odd was the fact that there was a donkey following it. Now that's something you just don't see every day.
I just watched this movie the other evening. It's pretty much what you'd expect from Larry the Cable Guy. It's loaded with farting, some vomit, a slew of non-PC jokes, and is certain to offend the PC sensitive crowd. In other words, I liked it. If you aren't offended by the rectal passing of methane gas, sniffing a rat's ass, or the sight of a fat redneck sitting on a toilet, it's a pretty amusing movie.
After I pulled out of the truckstop this morning and started making my way up interstate 65 I glanced at my data display panel. Oops, fuel level down to 12%. I knew I'd forgotten something, I had planned to fuel before leaving. I had a choice to make. I could either make a U turn at the next exit and return to the truckstop for fuel or try to make the next one 62 miles up the road. I did some quick mental calculations and decided that if I cut my cruising speed back to 60mph I should have ...
I'm having my morning coffee and shaking the cobwebs out of my head. I woke around 6:00 this morning, which is my normal wake up time, realized that I really don't need to get up early, and went back to sleep for a couple more hours. Just being lazy. I am about 8 hours from Eau Claire where I'll be delivering on Monday morning. Two whole days to make an 8 hour run from here. I'm debating whether to just stay here until tomorrow morning or go on up the road a little way and split the trip i...
I stopped this afternoon in Lebanon, IN. It's one of my favorite stopping points. I had a few beers and a good meal. One of the guys I spent some time in conversation with is a rookie who's been driving all of 6 months. Good kid, but still naive about the lifestyle of trucking. We had some pretty good conversation as he's one of the few who is actually interested in learning a little from those who have been there and done that. I had a pretty good time tonight, shooting pool with some ...
The boss called me today while I was making my way out of NC. He wanted to know how I was making out (fine), and if I had yet had a chance to swing into a Western Star dealer to get an estimate done for the repairs for the damages done by that rookie in the truckstop a while back (nope). As I was on my way back to WI he said he'd make an appointment for me to take it in for the estimate for Saturday. I pointed out that there were two problems with that. He asked what they were. I replied t...
