Yesterday I was in a great deal of pain and therefore kept my physical activity at a minimum. The rest paid off as the pain is much less today and I am able to move around a little more easily. I shouldn't complain considering when I was first released from the hospital back in Jan. I couldn't walk at all and the pain was constant and unbearable. Putting things in their proper perspective, I have made a good deal of progress. It has only been since Apr. 12th that I have been allowed to eve...

I find it truly amazing at times when I read an article and the subsequent comments that some people can take an article about ANYTHING and somehow twist it into a vehicle to propagate their particular idealogical agenda. Why? Are these people that single-minded (or simple-minded) that to them everything is viewed as an opportunity to get on the soap box? It doesn't matter if it's politics, religion, liberal, conservative, or pro/anti-Martian rights, these people seem to have no other purp...

I came across this while surfing the net. Link It seems it's a project to feed common everyday knowledge into a database in order to "teach" future computers to have common sense. It's too bad we can't do the same sort of thing with people.

I walked around quite a bit yesterday trying to get my bum hip back in some kind of shape. As I have pretty much worn nothing on my feet but house shoes since getting out of the hospital Jan.11, I decided maybe it was time to start getting used to wearing my boots again. It seems perhaps all the walking in my boots wasn't such a great idea after all. Today I am very sore and getting around at all is extremely painful. It's my nature to push myself pretty hard but maybe I am trying to rush ...

Well, the healing process continues. I have progressed from strictly using crutches, to being able to walk using a cane for the past couple of weeks, to yesterday being able to take a few steps without leaning on the cane at all. It's a slow process, but I am seeing definate progress. But it's so slow in coming. I've now been laid up and not working for better than four months with no income at all. Things are very very tight now. I need to get back to work soon. The sooner the better. ...

According to this story I received through the Slashdot mewsletter, it seems blogs are now being used as a vehicle to attack computers. This kind of thing is really getting out of hand these days. Just thought I would post this to inform my fellow bloggers of the potential threat. "The BBC has a story which indicates that filtering firm Websense believes at least 200 fake blogs are in existence which have malicious code that could infect your pc. Websense said it had seen examples of...

I'm feeling finer than a frog hair split three ways. It's been 11 weeks now since I was released from the hospital following the wreck that busted my right hip joint/pelvis. The doctors instructed me to not put any weight on the right leg at all for 12 weeks. Well ok, I'm a week early but yesterday afternoon I decided to go ahead and try walking a little. After all, how much difference can another week make? It was a quite painful exercise. I started out still using the crutches for sup...

I am really looking forward to being able to begin trying to walk again soon. Two more weeks before I can start working on it and I feel that's it's going to be a long two weeks. Sitting around basically doing nothing wears thin rather quickly. I have been keeping myself busy checking out various Linux distributions. I've tried a good many packaged distros and even compiled and built a Gentoo system from scratch. It was all very interesting and educational. I've finally settled on Slackwar...

I had been wanting to build a source-based Linux OS on my laptop for some time now and recently decided to have a go at Gentoo. I knew going in that it would be a little bit of a challenge as I had never used anything but the binary pre-packaged distros before now. After a great deal of hair-pulling, frustration, and giving up three times, I finally got the OS built and running. I feel pretty good about it. I have to say that in the past few days I have learned more about my computer and L...

While I've been sitting around healing from my injuries, I've been giving a lot of thought to what I'm going to be doing for a living in the future. While trucking was a nice break for a while, it isn't my real vocation. My degree is in Electronics and computers are what I enjoy. I've been thinking lately of starting a small computer business. In particular building custom PCs, service, and repair. This would be something I really enjoy doing as well as being less demanding on my body whic...

Being one is used to spending the bulk of his time alone, I am finding living at my mother's/step-father's house to be very annoying at times. It really isn't anything specific. They both treat me well and are taking good care of me during my recouperation which is going painfully slow. It's mainly just the noise. They talk to each other more or less constantly. Mostly about nothing. That's a good thing I suppose. And of course, they talk to me a good bit as well. Also good, and I am amiab...

Hello JU; I haven't checked in here for a while. I've been busy checking out various Linux operating systems and working on an article I hope to have published in a Linux magazine later this year. Just basically trying to keep myself busy. Despite my efforts to keep myself occupied, the healing process after my December accident is going painfully slow. I know that I was told it would be this way, the type of break I suffered in my hip/pelvis is not one to heal quickly. But being told a...

Since I have been sitting around unable to work due to my injuries from the December car accident, and being a long time Linux user, I decided to spend some time evaluating some of the multitude of distributions (flavors) of the Linux operating system out there today. All were evaluated on the same computer, an older Compaq Armada M700 notebook, PII 399Mhz processor, a Linksys Network Everywhere NP100 ethernet card connected to a dsl router, a Motorola WN825G wireless card, and a home built C...

As I sit here using my computer to pass the time I can't help but feel like there must surely be something I could be doing that would be both productive and income earning. While I am recouperating from my injuries and unable to walk without crutches employment options are extremely limited if not nonexistant. I have computer skills which I could put to use for someone, but am unable to drive right now. Even just riding in a vehicle is both painful and impractical for me. Ideally, a telec...

Hello JU. I haven't been on here in quite a long time. My computer went down on me a wile back and I could just never seem to find the time to repair it until now. I was involved in a very bad car accident on December 26th, a head-on collision with a much larger vehicle. I suffered a boken right hip joint which required surgery to repair. I remained in the hospital until January 11 when I was discharged to fly home to Florida for a long recouperation period. While I am just sitting arou...
