A friend of my mother works as a security guard at a factory here in town. She called and said the company really needed to hire someone as they were short handed at that site. Since she knew I was beating the bushes for some kind of work that I can do, she thought I might be interested. It surely isn't a great job, and the pay is pretty low, but considering my physical limitations and the shortage of decent openings in the area it's worth a shot. Better than nothing. She also said that...

We the people need to stand up and demand our lawmakers do their jobs and address the problems of wasted tax dollars in the Federal government. The deficit problem could be well on it's way to being addressed if the BILLIONS of wasted tax dollars every year were spent responsibly. The linked site lists some examples and by no means is all of the waste. Source: Link I think the Feds need to account for their spending before asking the taxpayers to fork over more money. And the taxp...

If and when I can get back to working, this is the bike I want to buy for commuting around town and for getting back and forth to work. Link There are far better, and more expensive bikes out there, but this one is a great compromise between budget, quality, and speed.

I finally got motivated and worked on my bicycle this morning. The last time I rode it the front derailleur would't shift from low range to high and the rear one would only shift between 4 of the 5 gears, effectively rendering my 10 speed a 4 speed. This morning I broke out a screwdriver and a wrench, set the bike in front of the porch swing, and set to work making the adjustments needed to tune up my bike. (Yes, bikes need tune-ups too). After about 15 minutes of tinkering with the shi...

Well, I finally found an ad for a job I may be able to do, at least for a while. The company that runs the potrait studios in Wal Mart is looking for someone to work the studio in our local store. Yeah, it's not exactly a great job, and the pay isn't too hot, but right now anything would be better than sitting around doing nothing so I sent them an application via monster.com. Maybe I'll hear from them this week. Right now ANYTHING is better than nothing.

I was awake at 4am. I'd had a dream about my former "significant other" aka girlfriend of 7 years. I dreamed that we had met up for some reason or other. Before departing she had given me a note which basically pleaded with me to come with her back to the home we had shared for 7 years. It was just a dream. We split up a year ago because I just couldn't provide her with everything she needed. We still talk. She calls me from time to time. She is the one who arranged and paid for my flight ...

This morning Frank was supposed to take the van to the shop to have the air conditioner replaced as it had quit working. Summer is coming. When he went out to get in the van he discovered that someone had stolen the license plates over night. Naturally we called the police who came out to take a report. The officer mentioned that plates were being stolen all over the county. It seems many turn up on the cars of illegal aliens according to the officer. Now mom and Frank will have to incu...

I didn't sleep much last night because of the pain in my hip and leg. I'm really tired now. I try to lay down to take a nap, but can I sleep? Hell no. Why? Because of pain? No. Because nobody in this damn house has the slightest bit of consideration whatsoever. Between the damn dog barking at nothing, mom yapping on the phone as loud as she can, and Frank walking around bumping, banging, talking to himself, and humming constantly who the f*ck can sleep? Not only is mom talking on the ph...

The New York Post reports that it will cost employers $628,880,000 in lost productivity on the first two days of Star Wars Episode III - Return of the Sith . How many of you are planning to skip at least part of your workday on the first two days? Now I wonder just how they came up with that figure? Besides, look at all the money the theaters will make.

Jimmy Buffet's song of the same title as this article feels appropriate this morning. "My head hurts, my feet stink, and I don’t love jesus (oh my lordy it’s that...) It’s that kind of mornin’ Really was that kind of night Tryin’ to tell myself that my condition is improvin’ And if I don’t die by thursday I’ll be roarin’ friday night" I took another dose of the painkiller before turning in last night. About the only thing it accomplished was to get me buzzed and give me a hangover h...

I just got back from my second walk/hobble/wabble of the day. I've been hurting pretty bad all day and was kind of hoping it might help ease things up a bit. No such luck. The walk was grueling but I did it. After dinner I'm going to break down and take some hydrocodone. I won't take it on an empty stomach because it makes me feel sick if I do. I don't like taking and or relying on it but it's at the point now that some small measure of relief would be welcome right now. I know eventual...

Recumbent bicycles have been becoming more and more popular as people discover the comfort of these very odd looking bikes. While they come in a variety of models and variations, they all have certain things in common. Recumbent bikes (or "bents") feature pedals which are far forward and higher up than the standard bike, a broad, high-backed seat resembling a loung chair as much as anything, good lumbar support, and are ridden in a more or less reclined position. For someone such as mys...

It was quite a brawl. The lazy part of me wanted to sleep in this morning. The air was cool, everything was quiet, and it's not like I needed to go to work or anything, so I just wanted to lay in bed a while and enjoy being lazy. The responsible part of me wanted to get up and greet the day. Why? So we fought about it for a while, the laziness in me demanding to be lazy and remain comfortably in bed while the responsible in me wanted to get up and get going. We slugged it out for a w...

The past few days I had been feeling pretty low about my current situation. Mind you, NOT feeling sorry for myself, more just a mixture of anger, frustration, and a bit of depression. At the same time, while I was feeling so low myself. I had been chatting with a couple of people who were going through some tough times and feeling depressed. I had been thinking about this as it relates to my own emotional state. During our chats I had not let on to these people that I was going through a "...
