An engineer dies and reports to the pearly gates. St. Peter checks his dossier and says, "Ah, you're an engineer -- you're in the wrong place." So, the engineer reports to the gates of hell and is let in. Pretty soon, the engineer gets dissatisfied with the level of comfort in hell, and starts designing and building improvements. After awhile, they've got air conditioning and flush toilets and escalators, and the engineer is a pretty popular guy. One day, God calls Satan up on the telep...
It's a good thing I had planned on resting more than anything else while home this time because it has rained every single day since I got here. As I am sitting here it has just started yet again. Oh well, I wasn't planning on going anywhere anyway so let it rain. I've been working on the hat which is my first attempt at knitting a hat and so far it's going ok. I am past the cabled part and now it's just round and round with the ribbing for a while before I have to start the decreases ...
I'm working on knitting my first hat, a matching one for the Irish Hiking Scarf I finished a couple of days ago. So far it's going pretty well. I'll post a pic when it actually looks like something.
The back and hip have been bothering me a lot after 6 weeks on the road. This afternoon it was really annoying me so I decided that I needed to be laying down to try and ease things a bit. I tried the couch but that just wasn't nearly firm enough and made it worse. I tried the bed but that still wasn't good enough, so I tried the living room floor. Ahhhhhhhh. That did the trick. I laid on the carpet with a pillow under my knees for a little while, stretching my back as far as possible. I s...
This promises to be the definitive catch phrase for 2007. I love it.
It looks like Wal Mart, at least the one here, doesn't want the knitter's business any more. I just got back from there and was complaining about the lack of selections regarding yarn, which was more pathetic than usual for them. The clerk who was stocking the shelves told me that it's far more than they will have in a couple of more months. She said that they are scaling it down and will only have four feet of shelf space dedicated to yarn. Four feet! I told her that I supposed that's ...
After what seems like forever I finally finished the Irish Hiking Scarf tonight. I think it came out ok for my first cabling attempt. Now I just have to start on the hat.
I went grocery shopping earlier. I bought enough to last for a few days, and nothing extravagant, yet even with the small discount for using my own canvas shopping bags in lieu of the landfill crowding plastic bags, it still totalled seventy bucks. Yikes! It's hard to believe that food can cost so damn much for so damn little. The cost of meat has gone through the roof. I bought a couple of pounds of ground chuck and a small package of chicken breast. Hardly expensive cuts of meat. Add a f...
I'm watching the new 'sitcom' Cavemen, spawned by the tv commercials everyone has seen by now. I expected the show to pretty much suck, but once again Hollywood has exceeded my expectations and created a show that is far worse than I could have imagined. The show is a non-stop PC racism-fest fraught with not so subtle racist conversations and scenarios. Just fill in 'caveman' in place of any minority and go with it. It goes beyond the absurdities of typical political correctness. I c...
I am finally home again after several weeks of being on the road. When I got home the sky was looking pretty ugly so I immediately walked over to the C-store and bought some brews to put in the fridge. I then called and ordered a pizza as I need to make a grocery run tomorrow. About 5 minutes after the pizza arrived it started raining. Pouring would be an apt adjective. I don't care. I am comfortably in my recliner with some hot pizza and cold brews. It can rain all night for all I care, I...
This morning I delivered the two big generators to a water treatment plant in a small GA town. The road leading to it was a narrow two lane road and the driveway was short with an electric gate. There was a deep ditch on each side of the narrow drive. There was no way possible for me to turn into this drive without running my trailer wheels into the ditch. I hooked the turn as wide as I could so that only the wheels on the left side would go into the ditch while the right ones remained on ...
It's such a beautiful day here in Atlanta. Sunshine, not too cool, not too hot, and a nice breeze blowing. After eating breakfast in the truckstop I had a seat on one of the benches outside near the entrance and enjoyed some fine outdoor knitting. It's nice to be able to sit outside and enjoy the nice weather and fresh air while knitting. Knitting outside is such an enjoyable experience and is a great way to pass the time. Naturally I had several comments and conversations while sitting a...
This is just random bullshit. If you're looking for something interesting, move on. Guys don't cry Tough guys never cry I'm a tough guy So why do I feel like crying? I won't of course No reason for it Nothing going on No-one has died At least not lately So why do I feel like crying? For no reason at all I won't allow it I'm a tough guy So it won't happen No reason for it And no excuse.
I spent a little time in the bar next to the hotel in which I am staying. I took my backpack with me and worked on my knitting while there. It fostered some amusing comments. Hey, I'm not knocking it, you're bigger than I am. That looks like good therapy but I'm not big enough to do that in public. Cool, whatcha makin? Do all truckers do that? Everyone I talked with tonight commented on my knitting and more than a couple of them indicated in a round about way that they were respec...
I just have to order one of these shirts.
