A bunch of useless crap

I spent a little time in the bar next to the hotel in which I am staying. I took my backpack with me and worked on my knitting while there. It fostered some amusing comments.

Hey, I'm not knocking it, you're bigger than I am.

That looks like good therapy but I'm not big enough to do that in public.

Cool, whatcha makin? Do all truckers do that?

Everyone I talked with tonight commented on my knitting and more than a couple of them indicated in a round about way that they were respectful about it because I am bigger than they are and didn't want to piss me off. Ok, I can live with that but that's hardly manly or brave on their part.

I tell people what I think regardless of their relative size or position. The idea of candy coating my thoughts because of a person's relative size or position seems revolting to me. Why do people do that? Pussies.

I am the sort of person to whom you can tell exactly what you think. I may not agree with you, but I respect your opinion as your own. I may even tell you to fuck off, but that doesn't mean I am going to stomp on you because of it. Why do people assume that a big guy will kick their ass for pissing them off?

Ok, I'll admit that there are times when I do enjoy the benefits of being bigger than average. It does come in handy, but mostly due to other people's assumptions. I have been known to use it to my advantage. But still, people make some assumptions they really shouldn't make. I really am a nice guy. Most of the time.

My size has never intimidated anyone.

But then I guess at my age, I no longer care what others think of what I do.  I only have a handful of people I have any thing to prove to.  One is my wife, and the others are my children.

I've pretty much always felt that way.

Heh, no one tends to screw with me either. I suppose being a big guy does have its advantages. In 19 years I've never even been in a fight...no one has the balls to challenge me and I just don't have the temper to pick one. Or rather, no one's pissed me off that bad yet.

Yeah that is an advantage in that it can make someone think twice.

Hmmm.. and here I am probably the small guy in the discussion.. LoL

I'll tell you this Mason, just because you might be big.. doesn't stop me from cracking jokes I'm just one of those guys who won't crack a joke with someone until they know me. I figure it rude to do so beforehand because of the fact that it would be construed as some random guy coming up and making fun of them. I admit I can make some REAL REAL good zingers.. but it's never personal to me... The best guys are those who will wind up and throw a big zinger right back.

I've lost many a zinger fight in my day.....

Though I've never been in a fight of my own causing... I'll say that at least.. and I'm not a 'big' guy... well maybe stout but not big.. LoL

Actually I am much the same in that I am always cracking wise. Most of the people I meet learn of my sense of humor pretty quickly. I'd much rather throw jokes than punches any day.

Why is it only big guys who see it like this? Size does intimidate a lot of people, particularly if all they have to go on is physical appearance.

I suppose that's true to some extent, I just found it a bit odd for more than one person in the same place to bring it up.

First of all, I'm sorry if I sounded a little abrupt. I actually thought I put a smiley at the end of my first sentence but for some reason it didn't show. Second of all, I would consider it odd if the same observation was made in the same place at the same time. But then, maybe the local folk know someone who is big and intimidating, which is why they prefaced their statements.

I didn't take it as abrupt at all. The thing I find especially odd is the fact that I am not overly tall, I'm only six feet. I am pretty 'burly' in that I have a thick neck, broad chest and shoulders, and large arms (chaining and strapping loads is better than lifting weights ) so I am always a little taken aback when someone makes such a comment.

Maybe I just have that 'look'. I dunno.

It's the hat in your avatar. It says, "Don't mess with me. You might mess up my hat. And people who mess up this awesome hat, don't live."

I suppose the knitting says the same thing. "Mess up my knitting and these needles will need something to do."
