With the release of Vista it's obvious that Microsoft still has no clue about security. This should make you feel all warm and fuzzy. Not. Link

My thanks to Baker for setting me onto this topic. His comment on one of my threads inspired this one. Baker: "I know men that I grew up around that right now if their wives left or died would literally not know how to cook their own supper, sew on a button, or even wash their clothes in their own washer and dryer. To me, THAT is a lot more, well, candy assed. There's always been something effeminate about a grown man-child that needs his wife to be his momma, too, lol." These days mos...

I aired up the tires on the bent to ride down to the corner c-store to stock up on brews for the day/evening. It's obligatory when I'm home ya know. As it's a bit chilly out I threw on one of my Baja jackets and took off. The guy working the register is from some place in the Middle East (he's never actually said what country, he just says the Middle East and I don't press him on it as it's none of my business).. He's a pretty nice guy and has lived in this country long enough that his Eng...

I bought some knitting needles in a Hobby Lobby the other day. They were having a 50% off sale so I figured what the hell. I bought a Boye circular needle in size 10. I figured I would use it to knit a hat or something. Everyone loves the circs so I wanted to see what all the fuss is about. Now, they had some other brands there but me not knowing the relative advantages and qualities of the various knitting needle brands I went with what I knew. My regular needles are all Boye so that's wh...

This morning I accidentally clicked the "delete" link on my most recent article and although I clicked the "cancel" button in the dialog box the article was deleted anyway. *sigh* Oh well, it wasn't a very good article anyway. Now the JU wonky monster won't even allow me to access my blog. Hopefully it'll be straightened out later and I can post articles again. In the comments of the now defunct article LW mentioned not being able to find truck stops with bars when she and her then husband...

I've been really curious about using 4 double pointed needles (DPNS) to knit in the round so I'm taking a little break from the scarf to give it a try. I don't have enough sport weight yarn to make a pair of socks so I have to use worsted weight. The trouble is, the only DPNS I have are US size 3. Not the ideal combination and I had to adjust the pattern accordingly. I just hope I adjusted correctly or they'll be an odd looking pair of socks for sure. This is the first time I've attempted ...

Ok, I measured my scarf in progress today and it's right at 36". I decided to give everyone a good chuckle and post some pics of my disaster in progress.

Geez. It was right out of an old comedy bit. I was coming out of the bathroom as a server was taking drinks to a table. We didn't physically collide, but it was close. She dropped one of the drinks on the floor making a big mess. I apologized and she apologized for getting in my way. No, you're doing your job, my fault No, I should have been more careful No, it's not your fault Manager shows up Me: not her fault Her: my fault Me: no it wasn't (in my forceful voice) ...

Sitting here in Appleby's enjoying a few adult beverages I am watching the human story playing out in this little microcosm. One thing that s constant no matter where one travels is that physical beauty and real beauty are two very different things. There are two young ladies working here that are physically beautiful. They are, in their own ways, quite beautiful to gaze upon. But the real story comes out in listening to what they have to say. One of them makes a lot of negative comments ...

I've been looking for a knitting bag that didn't look like a woman's knitting bag. Most of them are pretty feminine looking. I finally found one that is exactly what I need. I am going to order this knitting bag as soon as I can afford to part with the extra 40 bucks.

I'm sitting here in my truck watching a movie and knitting. It started raining a while ago, just a light rain and I pretty much noted it and continued my knitting and movie watching. I glanced up at the window a few moments ago and saw that the rain has changed over to snow. Yuck! It's coming down pretty good, but I think the ground is probably too warm for it to accumulate. At least I hope that's the case. I dropped off the truck I was hauling earlier this afternoon, made my way to the...

The scarf I am knitting as my first progress is becoming a story told in yarn. The first several inches of the scarf show a lot of mistakes and uneven stitches. As one moves along it's length the mistakes become fewer and the stitches become more even. Last night I knitted a few more inches onto the scarf while sitting in my truck watching a DVD. These rows actually look good. The stitches are even and the ribbing lines up the way it's supposed to do. The old axiom "practice makes perfect"...
