Today I finally got around to getting a Windows phone. It'll take me a few days to get it set up the way I want and to get used to using it, but so far I am really digging it. It really is a very good phone OS. Between the three choices available through VZW, I went with the Nokia Lumia 822. I really do like this phone. I've spent the past couple of hours downloading the apps I need. The only app I really need that isn't (yet) available for WP8 is one I use for work to scan my pap...
Today I discovered another great advantage to the Surface tablet over my iPad and Android tablets. I am able to print directly from the tablet to my printer either with USB cable or wireless network. I just had to plug the printer into the USB port of the Surface once and it downloaded the correct drivers. It will be really nice to not have to drag out my laptop every time they email me load permits or other paperwork. I can print them straight from the tablet. I am liking the Surface more an...
I now have a 64GB Surface Tablet. Yeah, I know, everyone knows that I am primarily a Linux user, but guess what? There aren't any true Linux tablets out there. I have an iPad (1st gen), had a 10" Android tablet until I broke it, a Nexus 7 Android tablet, and an Android phone (Galaxy S3), and I like them all well enough, but until now a tablet was, to me, just a really big phone that doesn't make phone calls as opposed to smaller, portable touch screen computers. The Surface has cha...
Today I visited a Brookstone store to pick up a wifi enabled "smart scale" and while I was there I ran across a very cool device called a Boogie Board. It is a paperless note pad and is exactly what I have been looking for to replace the multitude of dead tree note pads I go through every year. I often need to jot down load information, phone numbers, pick up numbers, directions, etc. These are notes I don't need long term and it's such a waste to use a paper note pad, but at the same...
Today I picked up the keyboard dock for my Asus Transformer tablet. I really like this. A tablet that can also be used as a netbook. Fantastic!
Last night I upgraded my Asus Transformer Android tablet to the latest Android release, Ice Cream Sandwich. It runs a bit snappier than it did before, and has a really nice new look. I've been playing around with it and found a new camera feature, panoramic photos. It works pretty well.
As an avid reader my truck is crowded with books of all sorts. As you can imagine storage space is at a premium in a truck. To solve the problem of carrying so many books in the truck I picked up a Sony Pocket Edition Reader digital book. I have to say that this thing is great. I had looked at a Kindle recently and really didn't care much for the display. I just couldn't see spending a lot of time reading that display without eye strain. The Sony device is far better in that regard. Sony's...
I have an XM satellite radio in my truck. While on the road it's a real drag to be constantly searching for stations to list to as I travel from one area to another so satellite radio makes sense as I can listen to what I want, when I want, where I want. With over 100 channels to pick from, there is always something good to listen to. The stations I listen to most often are: Classical Music: I listen to a couple of the classical stations quite a bit. It's great music to listen to while ...
