A bunch of useless crap
Published on April 17, 2009 By MasonM In Blogging

I'm in a hotel in Nebraska tonight. I had a few beers in the saloon and brought some dinner back to my room, some pretty good BBQ. Tasty.

A short while ago I walked out of my room to get something cold to drink from the machine down the hall. When I stepped out I heard a couple in the hall laughing and obviously enjoying each other's company. Naturally I looked in that direction. I saw no-one.

That was kind of weird but I just assumed it must have been coming from one of the rooms and went on to the drink machine and bought my drink.

Waling back to my room I again heard the couple laughing and cutting up. I looked down the hall and saw a man and woman, dressed in old fashioned clothing (late 1800s?) walking down the hall clinging to each other and obviously drunk.

Not an odd sight really, except that I could see right through them (kinda like fog). WTF?

I stopped dead in my tracks and watched them. They stepped into a room. He went through the motions of opening a door and all, but no door in that hallway actually opened, and they were gone.

I have to say that was very unsettling. I've never believed in ghosts but I swear I saw and heard two of them tonight.  And no, I hadn't had a lot to drink tonight.

I'll have to spend some time re-evaluating some of what I believe and think I know about the world around me. Perhaps there are things we have yet to explain.

Interesting read Mason. I've never believed in ghosts either, but I'm not so stuck in my beliefs that I'd dismiss solid evidence. Especially if I saw something like that with my own eyes and heard it with my own ears like you did!

I'm an analytical type of guy, always thinking. If that happened to me, I'd be compelled to think it through too - to try and rationalize the experience and see if there was a better explanation for "what really happened".

If I couldn't come up with any sort of alternative theory, then I'd have to move my skeptic-o-meter from "highly unlikely" to "further observation required".

You see so many show on the tube that tell stories of people encountering ghosts. Sometimes it seems plausible, but they never provide any proof beyond the story itself.

Or you go to a tourist attraction, and the employees will tell you that it's haunted and relay some of the experiences that some of them have had with the ghost(s). I've usually dimissed it as "going with the territory" - part of the supposed thrill of the attraction.

I'd be interested to read a follow-up on your thoughts.

Interesting story, Mason.

Always a rational explanation for things. As I walked down to the lobby for coffee this morning I could see that where I appeared to see ghosts was in fact a reflection of an adjacent hallway on a pane of glass in the window of the exercise room, which was darkened at the time.

Their clothing was another matter though. Several people were standing around in the lobby wearing late 18th century costumes. I gathered from their conversations that they were supposed to be going to some horse related event today and were grumbling about the fact that it was raining and the event was postponed.

It was such a great story before harsh reality intruded!  Sometimes it's more fun when the rational explanation isn't so apparent...

Safe travels.

Yeah, reality can ruin all the fun.

Thanks

Sorry, but the answer is in your blog itself: THE BEER.

Sorry, but the answer is in your blog itself: THE BEER.

That was certainly a contributing factor, no doubt.

Still, one can wonder.  The Glenwood Hotel  at Glenwood, Colorado Hot Springs is reported to have ghosts too.  It really is an unusual hotel with the oddest decor.   I have stayed there several times in the olden days because a family could stay inexpensively but I never felt at ease except in the dancehall/bar on the first floor.  The dining room was the worse and the last time we (as a family) were there we left before the food arrived.  Too many bad vibes.  About 35 years ago and I have never forgotten that creepy feeling.

Trucking to ghost town? Hope you're too busy out on the road to write here

Always a rational explanation for things.

I am both relieved and saddened at the same time. As a natural-born skeptic, I'm reluctant to believe most reports of the supernatural, UFOs, or conspiracy theories. As someone with a soft heart, I'm looking for answers to questions of the universe that can't easily be answered.

Too often these reports come in from the soft-headed segment of society, but when a true thinker has something to report, I'm all ears.

Overall, I'm not at all surprised. by the outcome.

Over the years I've stayed stayed at many "haunted" hotels. I have yet to see an actual ghost that couldn't be easily explained  in the light of day (and sober). Not to say there's no such thing, but as a sceptic I am yet unconvinced.

Not overly busy, just haven't been around any free wifi spots of late.

Easy. All of the reports are quite false, and all true.

The universe is exactly what we each choose it to be, nothing more and nothing less. To search beyond that is an exercise in futility.
