A bunch of useless crap

When I stopped in at a fuel stop today to use the restroom and grab a Gatorade I saw (while using the restroom) a sale flier advertising a 256MB MP3 player they had on sale for $40. Hey, that's plenty big enough for me as I don't plan on using it for videos or anything. 256MB is a lot of music. I bought one.

It's a knock off of an iPod (but really tiny), and I'm sure it's not the highest quality, but it seems to work ok. It took me a while to figure out how the thing works. I tried to read the directions (unusual for me), but they were obviously written in another language and translated (poorly) and really made little sense. I just spent some time playing with it and finally figured out how all of the functions are accessed and how it all works.

I have to admit it's kind of a cool toy. Now I can transfer some music from my laptop to the MP3 player and listen to tunes while I ride my bike or do other stuff that I may not want to carry my laptop with me.

I do need to find some better earbuds though. The ones that came with it don't quite fit in my ears and feel like they wanna fall out at any moment. Maybe I can fit them with some ear gels and make them fit better. I'm pretty sure I have some gels in my truck. Somewhere.

On a totally unrelated side note, I think my healthier eating is paying off. I am being constantly annoyed by having to pull up my jeans as they are trying to fall off of me. I need to find my belt, which is in the truck somewhere. It never ceases to amaze me how one can lose something in a truck, but trust me you can.

lol, roflmbo.. Mason.. As I read your article memories of high school came flooding back. How does one loose thing in the front seat of a front wheel drive car? If you can loose things in a truck, believe me things can be lost in the front & back seat of cars.. When you know the doors haven't opened. and you had the item uh earlier...lol

Without going into any embarrasing details, lol sufice it to say things can get lost & take forever to find.. especially when they HAVE to be found! lol

keep it between the ditches!

Believe me, you can indeed lose things in a truck. Every time I change trucks I find things I haven't seen since the last time I changed trucks

Congrats on the new gadget.  I actually got myself a new MP3 player today, though mine is much more a toy and not one that would be that useful over time.  The one I got is a puny little 128 MB (that isn't that many songs at all, no matter what format I would use) that is unfortunately non-expandable.

I saw a few nice Sansa models at the nearby (not that nearby, but within driving distance) Microcenter store: Sandisk Sansa player

Compliments of NewEgg

Passed on those though (even though they were fairly reasonably priced) as I already have an AM/FM/MP3/WMA player that I really like which is expandable if you plug in an SD card.  Pogo Radio Your Way LX.

Pogo Radio Your Way LX

Why'd I get the one that only has 128MB?  It was a special give away to Washington Nationals season ticket purchasers.

Call me a bit crazy, but I collect memorabilia (some, not that much) for my favorite team(s), and this seemed like a cool little trinket to add to my collection as long as I didn't have to pay too much to get it. If I had ordered my own tickets earlier, and paid for them earlier, then I'd have gotten one for free myself, but I was late to order and wound up just buying this one from another fan that had gotten it for free and wasn't inclined to keep it.

If it had just a little more memory, it'd be useful for me, but then I'd just be worried about losing it or damaging it and would hate that I no longer had a working toy

The POGO Radio on the other hand is my full duty MP3/WMA player since it receives AM and FM and is expandable. Slapping extra memory in it via the SD card slot is just too easy and I can cram a lot of songs on a 2GB card. The 2GB cards are cheap enough to grab a few of if I want to keep them full and just rotate through them (one for Rock and Roll, one for Country, etc.)

POGO Radio Your Way also has another big advantage for people so inclined -- they record AM or FM straight to an MP3 format and allow for schedule recordings. So, if you are a big talk radio fan, you can set the thing to record your favorite program and then timeshift it (TiVo/DVR style) so you can play it back at your own convenience. I had more use for that feature before finding I could download my favorite regular show via Podcast format, but since I can still easily move files over to the POGO via USB connection, I download the Podcasts, xfer over to the POGO and then walk around listening to my favorite show while blocking out the employees in the work place

Oh, I conveniently ignored the part about you losing weight....  lalalallalalalalalalalalalallaa I don't hear it.  I don't see it.  I ignore healthier eating as my gut just keeps telling me it wants more food hahahahaha.

Actually I'm headed out for a good binge on Sunday evening, and then I firmly believe I'm going on a bit of a diet myself, or so I keep telling myself.  (The binge part is a definite.  The lose some weight myself is still up in the air).

I wish you all the best in keeping on the right path though.  Hopefully it won't cost you too many new clothes

Darn it, I also wanted to mention that I sympathize on the ear buds issue.  I swear finding a good set of earphones/headphones is a total p-i-t-a.  I picked up a set of headphones today that hang over the ears, on the collar.  Made by Phillips.  Fairly cheap at Microcenter, but not as cheap as the sale pairs that I was looking for.  They seemed to be sold out of the super cheap ones, and I'm probably better off for not getting them, but I loathe spending too much money on headphones/earphones when I know they break too easily and wind up not working as well or being as comfortable as I expected them to be.

So many different styles, and lots of choices, but most start at the $20 and up mark and just seem no better than the cheapest sets I find at Radio Shack or Wal*Mart.

Some times the cheaper ones are actually better.

And I am NOT on a diet, I am just eating healthier. I would never go on a diet. I am a guy after all.

Bad news. 1GB for $40, and great ratings too.

Hazel,

While I buy a lot of my stuff on newegg, there's the downside of not having instant gratification. And for someone like mason, who's always on the road, that can stretch out even further for you and I.

Still, a good find. I might have to take a peek at it.

yay for the losing weight! Not to put a downer on you, but you must remain aware that you will gain weight when the non smoking kicks in and the body realises it. Before you know it you can balloon up and then find it difficult to lose it again.

Enjoy your MP3.

The problem with great deals in computers is that tomorrow, they are not!

Glad you got what you want.  So blow out that waist so your crack stops showing!

I recently (well a few months ago) sent Adrian a Zune. He previously had a cheapy that just did songs, but since I email him pics and video of me and the kids, this works well for him (and it is compatible with his 360).

Not necessarily. I didn't gain any weight when I quit smoking and am now about 27 lbs. under the weight I quit smoking at.

Mason, enjoy your new toy.

No biggie. I'm going to be returning the one I bought for $40. It seems to have a bad battery as it won't run on the battery even after charging over night. When I stopped at Wally World today I picked up a 2GB RCA unit, which is much nicer, for $70.

Yeah, being on the road all the time does make a difference in how one shops. I'll order something online once in a while and either have it shipped to my office or home depending on which way I'm heading. But in this case, it was strictly an impulse buy.

Thanks, that's why I am pairing healthier eating habits with quitting smoking.

I'm still trying to find my belt.

Yeah, technology prices change by the minute. I don't worry too much about it.
