A bunch of useless crap

I was in my bunk just drifting off to sleep when the truck suddenly started shaking violently and I felt the front end moving to the side. Ack! I knew exactly what was happening. I threw on my pants and shoes very quickly and jumped out to access the damage.

Sure enough a rookie driver with all of 2 months of experience caught the left side of my front bumer with his trailer wheel by cutting the corner too sharply. It bent the bumper out about 18 inches and slide the whole front of the truck over about 3 feet. My boss isn't going to be too happy some dimwit just damaged his new truck. I'm not too thrilled about it myself.

I took a few deep breaths, grabbed my camera and starting shooting pictures. I then got his truck information, his driver's license information, spoke with his company's safety man on duty, and called the cops.

I just finished up with the deputy who came out and did the report and am now over due for some sleep.

I hate truckstops.

Man, it always happens, doesn't it? You just get hold of something nice and someone else comes along and messes it up, even if only accidentally. I sure do hope you catch up the sleep, though.

Have a good weekend, mate.

New Vehicles come with pre-painted bull's eyes it seems.  Sorry for the accident.  Is it driveable?

Oh that sucks!

I hope you got some sleep!

At least nobody got hurt.  The amount of nasty accidents I've seen lately makes me thankful for that.  That said, that really sucks!  The first new car we ever had got backed into by an elderly man that had no business driving.  He backed all the way across the street and into the yard in order to bash in the driver's side.  Thank goodness noone had been walking or riding a bike in his path because he never paused for a second to look.

I got to see a suburban vs stretch limo accident the other day.  The surburban almost cracked the limo right in two.  There were about 3 ambulances on the scene and there were golf clubs and other expensive looking debris all over the road.  They were struggling to extract people from the limo when we were directed around them.  I'm pretty sure someone got badly injured in that one.

Best wishes.

That sucks, Mason. I'm sorry.

You're just not having a lot of luck with this new truck, are you? First the weigh station fiasco, then the eejit climbing up into your firetruck load, and now this.

Is it driveable still?

Glad YOU'RE ok!!

So glad it didn't happen while you were driving. Glad you're ok too.

Sucks about the truck, but hopefully that can be fixed up soon.
Nice to hear that nothing happened to ya.

Thanks. Yep, it does seem like anything new is a target.

I think you're right. The last new truck I bought for myself had a nice big ding in the right front fender before I ever made the first payment on it. That one was also thanks to a rookie driver.

It's driveable, it pulled the bumper out on that side about 18 inches, but otherwise no other damage. His company's insurance will have to spring for a new bumper to the tune of about $2,500

Thanks, I managed to catch a few hours. Not nearly enough, but I'll make it up tonight.

~feels very sorry for the new driver~

That's enough to make it VERY hard for him to find a new job if he gets canned over it.

I feel bad for you too, Mason, and the owner of your truck, but the truck can be repaired, his record can't, and we both know what an 'avoidable accident' can do to ya.

Yeah, I know it's going to make it rough on him, and accidents do happen, but this one there was just no excuse for. He had enough room for three trucks to make that turn. He screwed up plain and simple, and he knew it.

But then, I didn't get mad and raise hell with him either because I knew he felt bad enough about it as it was. Accidents happen, and to his credit he didn't try to bolt and that counts for a lot in my book.

If nothing else, perhaps he learned a valuable albeit expensive lesson: use all the room available.

I really hate seeing the bad wrecks. I see more than my share out here.

Thanks, I'm also glad it wasn't any more serious and no injuries. Stuff happens.

Thanks. I don't know if it's bad luck with the truck or just bad luck with this run I just completed. It was a load from Hell from the beginning. Some of them go that way.

Yep, still drives ok, just not quite as pretty.
