A bunch of useless crap

I was in my bunk just drifting off to sleep when the truck suddenly started shaking violently and I felt the front end moving to the side. Ack! I knew exactly what was happening. I threw on my pants and shoes very quickly and jumped out to access the damage.

Sure enough a rookie driver with all of 2 months of experience caught the left side of my front bumer with his trailer wheel by cutting the corner too sharply. It bent the bumper out about 18 inches and slide the whole front of the truck over about 3 feet. My boss isn't going to be too happy some dimwit just damaged his new truck. I'm not too thrilled about it myself.

I took a few deep breaths, grabbed my camera and starting shooting pictures. I then got his truck information, his driver's license information, spoke with his company's safety man on duty, and called the cops.

I just finished up with the deputy who came out and did the report and am now over due for some sleep.

I hate truckstops.

So glad it didn't happen while you were driving. Glad you're ok too.

Thanks. These things always seem to happen either when I'm inside the truckstop or in my bed. I've been hit several timees over the years, several of them by fellow truckers. Every single one of those truckers had less than 6 months experience.

Personally, I think we need a much better training system. Something like an apprentice program might be best. That's how I learned way back when.

Sucks about the truck, but hopefully that can be fixed up soon.
Nice to hear that nothing happened to ya.

Thanks. hopefully they'll have a new bumper waiting when I get back to the shop but that's probably wishfull thinking. I may have to drive around with a bent bumper for a little while until the insurance company settles up.

geez !! What a stinker of a run this has been for you.
Your wrist, the permit hell, that little kid stepping on you, and I think it all started with that "prick" on your finger you wrote about.
You have class - keeping your cool with the newbee & handling all of this like a pro.
Glad you're OK.

Extremely sorry about all this. I hope you are on the road with the repaired truck soon. I hope the damage was not too great. Choose a safer place to park and rest.
