A bunch of useless crap
Sometimes doing nothing is the best thing to do

We all have our busy lives. We have work, family and friends to which we are obligated. We have our hobbies and recreational activities. Some of us watch television, some of us read, some of us surf the net. We cook, we clean, we drive, we walk, we ride bicycles and motorcycles. We shop for clothing, groceries, and the assorted thing we want and need to live.

What a whirlwind of constant activity! How many of us ever take some time to just be still? To do absolutely nothing but peacefully enjoy our own company and our surroundings? It can be very refreshing. It can calm the nerves and bring peace to the mind and soul.

Today I sat outside for about an hour, doing nothing. I plopped myself down on the grass and sat there. No television, radio, or other mental distractions. I just sat and took in my surroundings. The feel of the breeze, the smells on that breeze, the lizards scurrying around on their busy little lizard activities. I listened to the sounds of the birds, the traffic in the distance, watched and listened to the insects, and the humans. I didn't think about or analyze these things, I simply absorbed them into myself and enjoyed them.

It was only an hour but it was a wonderful vacation from the daily hustle and bustle we call life. I will make a point of doing this every day from now on. Give it a try.

I dont get to do it often, but I like doing it when we go out to California in February (since it is not really possible around here this time of year).  My wife and I will go sit on a bench for an hour or so early in them morning.  When the natives think it is too cold, but at mid 60s (headed for a high in the 70s) it is perfect for us, and the only bad thing is when the wind changes and we get the breeze from the cattle yards.
