A bunch of useless crap

It's fairly common knowledge that Ben Franklin thought the turkey should have been the national bird. I wonder though, if he'd had his way and the turkey had been adopted as the US national symbol, what would Thanksgiving be like today? Surely we wouldn't be legally permitted to eat our national bird with stuffing and yams.

Would we?

I can't imagine the family gathered around the holiday table to partake in a tasty stuffed eagle.

If old Ben had his way, there would be a lot of Poaching going on!  But just imagine, even if he had had his way, other countries would not be so constrained.  So would we go to war every time a Frenchman ate a giblet?

Well, I guess other countries would be even more inclined to call us a bunch of turkeys than they are now.

Wild turkeys are a far different critter from the thing you get at the supermarket.
Wild turkeys are smart and hav a lot more dark meat, smaller breast meat area, can fly!

This is very true.  They are a noble bird.  However, how much respect would a squadron of "Screaming Turkeys" command in a dog fight?
