A bunch of useless crap

I trained the supervisor. I coached him, I advised him, and I did the best i could to make him successful in his position. Today, he quit. He just couldn't handle the stress.

When I arrived at work, one of the managers from our district office was waiting for me. He filled me in on the current situation and said that he wanted me to take over as supervisor, a position I refused to take a while back. I liked being the Lieutenant, second in command. Authority without the headaches. Now he wants me to take over as Captain, Site Supervisor, all of the authority with all of the headaches to go with it.

I told him I really wasn't interested, but he insisted that I would be the best person for the job and that he "really wanted me to fill the position". *sigh*. I told him I would think it over.

I left technical management some 8 years ago because it wasn't much fun and I really didn't enjoy managing employees any more after 13 years of doing it. I'm not really sure I want to get back into all of that.

Sometimes a "promotion" isn't all it's cracked up to be. I'll likely take the position as I don't want to see another unqualifed yahoo in it, but it's really not what I want right now.

I would congratulate you, but it doesn't seem appropriate with the sentiments you have right now. If you accept, I do hope something positive comes out of it for you.

I enjoyed my time as a manager, but it took a lot out of me.  Why?  Because I like doing as much and did not want to lose my skills.  I left that job about 7 years ago, and dont regret just being a Senior person now, not a manager.  SO I can understand your reservations.

That being said, congratulations on being one hell of a great worker!  They know quality when they see it.
