A bunch of useless crap

Firstly, no I haven't had a chance to shoot a pic of it yet, but I will soon.

The new bike is fantastic! It rides so much more comfortably and easily than my old beater did. And, while it's classified as a "slow" recumbent, it's still faster than my old bike was. I have already discussed upgrading to a larger chainring with the owner of the bike shop. I plan to do that as finances permit as it will increase the bike's speed considerably.

Riding a bent is nothing like riding a regular upright bike. The best analogy I can give is it's like pedaling a lawn chair. You sit back in the seat comfortably with the pedals forward of you in a reclined position similar to sitting in a Lazy Boy.

Between the bike's gearing and smaller wheels it pedals quite easily. On a ten mile ride I felt absolutely no strain on my hip, back, , butt, arms or wrists. All of these were literally sore points riding an upright bike.

Today I bought a much stronger bike lock than the cheapo that I had as I really don't want to make it easy to steal. Kryponite makes the best bike locks available and I selected one which should do a good job of securing my bike. I would have prefered their NY City Chain lock, which is practically uncuttable, but can't afford to spend a hundred bucks on a lock system right now. The one I bought is a heavy steel cable type system with and inline combination lock and would be extremely difficult to cut through. It'll do.

I'll be riding my new bent to work for the first time in a few hours. I'm actually looking forward to my ride to work, and to being able to cruise around on it as I make my rounds. What could be better than getting paid to ride around on a cool bike?

That's great Mason! This bike sounds really cool. You should post a pic of it, one with you on it even better!

I wonder if this is something I could handle? I sure can sit in a lawn chair, so maybe???
It'd be good for me after the knee surgery!
Glad and happy for ya Mason Sorry tho about the other bike
It would be fitting justice if the thief has it stolen from him/her!!!!
Geeeez, I hope your new lock is really strong! I suppose keeping it inside isn't
a realistic option long term though??

I'd discuss it with your doctor first, Trudy. While bents are great bikes, and very comfortable, pedaling any bike can be hard on the knees and bents are no exception. If you decide to look at getting a bent (with doctor's blessing) look at ones with a low bottom bracket like mine instead of the high ones. What that means is the pedals are down low instead of up level with the seat. The low bottom bracket (low pedals) is much easier on the knees. Many people who ride the ones with a high bottom bracket experience some levels of knee discomfort, at least until the knees strengthen up.

This is one with a high BB.

This is the model I have.
