A bunch of useless crap
When I got home with my shiny new bike, I moved the old bike out onto the carport and parked my new bike on the lanai and chained it. As I only have the one bike lock the old bike wasn't chained. An HOUR later I walked out and saw that my old bike was gone. A freakin hour! Broad daylight.

I really really hate thieves! The bike was old and worn out so I don't really care that much about it, but I did kinda plan on rebuilding the drivetrain at some point and getting a little use out of it. I hate to be mean but I hope the bastard gets run over by a truck while riding it!

Whew.... thank God it wasn't the new bike. Pardon the expression...but 'shit comes around'...somewhere, somehow that lowlife of a thief will pay for his sin.

Man, i saw the title and thought it was the new bike! But still, it's an invasion and i understand your anger.

Oh if it was the new bike I would be going ballistic!
The thing is, if the asshole had simply knocked on the door and asked about my old bike I would have happily given it to him.

Want some snow in the winter?  There was a bike across the street for months after the peoplel moved out.  And it never disappeared.

I have a nice neighborhood,  Sorry yours is not as good!

Yeah I guess mine isn't so good. Actually it's the neighborhood next to mine that isn't so good, but they come over here looking for stuff to steal. Our entire neighborhood is a private community; private property. Posted signs and everything. Doesn't stop them from wandering through all the time.

The cops cruise through once in a while looking for tresspassers, but the thieves aren't afraid of the cops and pretty much just do what they want.

That's really sad, Mason. Even if it wasn't worth a lot to you, it was as if your home and your personal space was violated.

We're pretty lucky...kids leave all sorts of stuff lying around in our neighborhood, and someone might play with it or wear it or whatever, but they'll always bring it back. If it's in someone's front yard, it's generally considered community property, hehe.

I'm considering getting a petition going to demand the community owner hire private security.

i too saw the title and hadda put off reading the article for a while cuz i really didn't wanna find out it was your new bike.

it's bad enuff they got your older bike, but im so glad it wasnt the other one, i'm gonna spare you the story bout when my nishiki was stolen and where that led to.

please be sure to get one of those electric scribes or find someone who has one and 'brand' each of the major components with a mark that isn't readily apparent. then take pix of the marks and put them--along with the serial numbers--someplace like a safe deposit box.

Thanks kingbee, I plan to "brand" my bike as soon as I can afford to buy the engraver. Sorry about your Nishiki.

So glad it wasn't your new bike. I think it's pretty common here in Florida what happened to your bike. Our son got a new bike last Christmas. We put the old bike outside not totally exposed, just outside the door leaning on the wall until we decide if we were going to toss it or find someone who wants it because it was old but still rideable. Well lo and behold an hour later it was gone when we went outside!

A week later we saw this man riding it, spray painted a different color but it was it! Makes me uncomfortable though because God knows what else these people get up to!

but pity the poor starving thief, he prolly stold your bike to feed his family of 14 illegitment children, or buy drugs, what ever he thought of first.

Well, being as the gears are worn out on it, maybe he'll sell it to someone for crack money and then get the crap beat out of him for selling them a bad bike.

I just got back from buying a very good steel cable Kryptonite lock for the new bike. It's still going to be parked inside when I'm home, but anyplace else I go the lock will be on it whenever it's parked.

You're right of course! But like M said it would have been better for the person to at least ask. I of course have no problem with someone trying to feed his or her family but asking is much better. We didn't go and ask for the bike or anything. It was good someone found use of it.
