A bunch of useless crap

I just got back from a ride. It's a new personal best for me. I rode about 5 miles total, about a mile of it in a bad head wind. I'm tired and my hip is a bit sore, but overall I feel pretty good and kinda proud of myself.

I didn't really push hard, opting for a more leisurely ride. It was nice. I did ride in traffic for a short way but was too nervous about it and turned off onto the safer side streets. Until my strength and riding skills return to a more normal level, I think I'll stay out of heavy traffic. The last thing I need right now while still nursing a busted hip is to get into an accident with some careless driver.

The riding is definately good therapy for my hip. It gets sore during the ride, but it's a kind of a good sore, if that makes any sense. A healing kind of sore. Right now, it feels pretty painful as I sit here, the right hip and right cheek aching badly, but I know it will subside and lead to an even stronger hip.

And of course, the overall health and fitness benefits of riding are hard to beat. I should have myself back in shape in no time. I'm really looking forward to the first time I can participate in an organized ride and, eventually, my first century ride*.

* A century ride is riding either 100 miles a day or 100km a day depending on whether it's an english ride or a metric ride.
