This afternoon I took my daily hobble. I'd like to call it my daily walk, but realistically it's more of a hobble aided with my cane. I hobbled down to the end of the road, about a block, and back home again. There I was in a pair of khaki shorts which just does cover the ugly surgical scar on the side of my right thigh, (don't cover the scars just above my knee from traction though), a yellow tank top, sandles, and a khaki colored panama hat. No fashion show winner here.
I hobbled down at the best pace I could manage under current physical conditions and stood at the end of the road for a couple of minutes just watching the traffic go by as people went about their lives. Then I turned myself around and hobbled back home again albeit at a little lesser pace. The final half block or so being very slow and difficult.
That is the extent of my big daily trip out. For many the whole thing might take up less than five minutes of their day. For me, about 30 minutes. After which, I sat in the porch swing on the lanai for another 30 minutes or so enjoying the fresh air and bird song.
Eventually I'll extend my range as my busted hip/pelvis heals until I work up to riding my bicycle again. I intend the bike to be my primary transportation once I have built up enough strength to ride it without extreme pain. What the hell, this is Florida and as long as you don't mind a little rain once in a while it's bicycle weather pretty much year round.
One hobbling step at a time.
