Yesterday morning I loaded in North Bend, WA, put off two stops in Seattle, and then set out for Salt Lake City. The plan was to get to SLC by noon today, put off that final stop, and then reload for Michigan.
Well, I got as far as Baker City, OR last night. The last fifty miles was a nightmare due to Winter weather conditions. I had to stop here because they have up chain restrictions from here to the Idaho line. That means trucks have to put on tire chains. Our company policy is "We don't do that".
I understand why we don't do it. We haul expensive stuff on open trailers, and tire chains have a nasty habit of breaking, flying off the tire, and tearing up everything in their path.
So here I sit, waiting for the restrictions to be lifted so I can be on my way. No chance of making SLC by noon, or even before the customer closes for the day. Best I can hope for now is to get there some time tomorrow. I have a feeling this has probably screwed me out of that load to MI.
